Cannot connect to AFP server running FreeNAS

I am running FreeNAS 7 on a server on which I have set up a user and some folders. I can connect to the server using username@IPaddress and password from the terminal. If I try to connect from Finder to the server in order to get a shared drive I get an "invalid usrname or password" message.

I have run out of things to try!
