Thunderbolt Pegasus R4 Experience?

Has anyone else got any first hand experience of the Promise Pegasus R4 (or R6) with their iMac? I bought mine this week and managed to load it up with around 1.4Tb (it holds around 3Tb) no problem. Now, today I can't get the drive to stay connected before it ejects for more than 5 minutes. It's driving me mad and I'm very concerned as I moved all my family video onto it from another drive and it won't stay connected long enough to get it back onto another drive again.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2011 i7 3.4, 256Gb SSD and 16Gb RAM

It definitely sounds like there is something wrong with the cable that is causing the temperamental ejecting.

Have you tried the tinfoil shielding trick? It may well be some wireless interference that is causing it.

Also, why would the cable be running hot when you're not even transferring data? That will also affect the connection and could contribute to intermittent disconnects.

Hi there.

I live in Denmark

The 22. Dec. I received a Pegasus R6 with a 27" Thunderbolt display.

I am having the same problem as you guys.

Every time my phone rings I get this error on my macbook pro !!!!!!!

"The Disk was not Ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk befor unplugging it or turning it of"

Yes the Disk ejects it self!!!

But the problem is only between the Display and the R6.

I have connected my macbook pro to tha thunderbolt display, and the display to the R6.

It has cost me a fortune to bye this stuff.

I hope that someone will have a solution for this problem very soon.

Hi Rami, unfortunately it appears that Pegasus don't give a **** about this problem which was reported as far back as July last year, they continue to ship out drives that they know there are problems with and in my experience have communicated no information as to what they are doing about providing a solution. My dealer JIGSAW is also ignoring my emails of complaint. I now have a sign up warning people not to come near to me when I'm editing with a mobile phone. What a f**king joke.

Hi, I've posted on this thread once before and wanted to provide a current update. My R6 has not disconnected without warning and has been solid. In trying to think what may be different about my setup I can tell you I did not load the software from Promise and I have both Thunderbolt ports (in the back of my iMac) connected to something. Of course, I'm not sure if either of these have helped but wanted to pass this along in case it might help.

rami skytte,

The problem with disconnects caused by RF-interference is a by Promise EU confirmed error since mid October 2011. You should return the Pegasus R6 for a refund immediately - as of today there is no valid solution for the problem presented by Apple or Promise and as such, the unit is from your point of view not fully functional. Please contact Promise EU at +31402352600 for further info.

Scott E. et al,

As stated earlier in this thread, the RF-interference is specifically related to the GSM900 frequencies mainly used in the EU area. If you are not in this region, or if your phone is using UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, GSM850, GSM1800, GSM1900 or CDMA EV-DO, your system will probably not be affected by the RF-interference issue at all.

/U

Thats the problem.. there are no other Thunderbolt drives yet that compare. Lacie have their small drives but they are not a solution for large data storage.

I have been having the same issues but only it seems with the R6 plugged in via an Apple Thunderbolt display.

I suspect the issue is not with the R6/4's directy but with the cable mostly from what people have said about sheilding etc.. it could be a general fault with the thunderbolt technology which would be more worrying.

If I see another disconnect I'll place another call with Apple as they have already replaced the display and cable. Just a new Macbook Pro is the only other option now 🙂

I have been worried about the R6 though as when I got it I had a disk DOA and now only about 3 months on I have another dead disk. I am currently awaiting the replacement disk from Promise.

I would get another one (if the prices hadn't gone up).

I am hoping more and more manufactures will adopt Thundertbolt though and when the HDisk issue in Thailand is sorted then hopefully prices will come down again.

STAY AWAY FROM PROMISE PEGASUS UNTIL THEY REACT ON EMAILS AND FIX ISSUES

they don't answer any emails and they won't fix any of the bugs that are known for more than 6 months now.

as thunderbolt will roll out to pc-mainboards in february, there will be more competition to promise and they will have to address the issues.

concerning the extreme issues with replacement drives, they don't even reply on emails (me and some readers sent them emails, none of which were answered)
