Itunes doesnt show ipod??

Itunes doesn show that my ipod is connected.
its charging (it shows that battery on the screen (30gb video) but it also takes forever to charge)
it worked just fine until I got a car charger, now itunes doesnt show that my ipod is hooked up and therefore songs to upload onto my ipod
i have removed and reinstalled itunes and ipod updater, and nothing
i dont know if it is a USB problem or what?

hi Cara!

okay, let's try to get the usual suspects off the table first.

roughly speaking, there are two different "classes" of ipod non-recognition problems: one class where neither itunes nor Windows Explorer is detecting the the ipod, and one where Windows Explorer sees the ipod, but itunes doesn't.

for the "neither itunes nor Windows explorer recognises the ipod" class, let's start with these documents (and their associated links):

Strange iPod behavior when Windows confuses iPod with network drive

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod

for the "Windows Explorer recognises ipod, but itunes doesn't" class, let's start with these documents (and their associated links):

iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported

iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes

keep us posted.

love, b

EDIT: 🙂 sorry about that, Jeff, didn't realise you were around. i see we have the same intuitions about Cara's problem ...

Thank you both for you help
however none worked.
the ipod doesnt show up on my computer nor itunes still
on my ipod it displays this message "FireWire Connections are not supported. TO transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided. Press CENTER to dismiss." (it has been saying this ever since i hooked my ipod up to my car charger/fm transmittor)
I did the "disk management" thing and the ipod doesnt show up at all
should i just send it in? or what should i do? i hope i dont have to get another one
also.. my stepdad has my mini ipod, should i see if his does the same thing?
thank you both so much for helping me
