iPod Touch connects/disconnects continually

Hello all,

My iPod touch rapidly connects/disconnects to my computer with Windows XP. This makes syncing a terrible and patience-required activity. I have only encountered one, unverified solution: Buy a root hub and see if my computer detects it better. Is this a good option and worth the money to try? Or is there another way to slove this problem?

By the way, currently, I need to restore my touch, so doing anything on the device is out of the question.

I also have this problem with my Ipod Touch 4G, (altho not on my 3G bizarrely...) I have Windows 7 x64. When iTunes recently upgraded to 10.4, I was able to sync my 4G touch again, and upgraded to iOS 4.3.4. Now the same problem is happening again: I plug my iPod into the computer and it rapidly flickers from connected to disconnected and back again. I'm annoyed, as the problem first occurred after I updated iOS last time. Will we have to wait for a new version of iTunes before this problem is fixed for this version of iOS?

(I have tried three different sync cables, so that's not the problem. My iPod also syncs fine with my other PC, but since it has also synced with this computer at some point, I figure it has to be able to do so again, the problem is HOW?!)

So Apple, any thoughts?

I found that syncing on a newer computer helped me. See, I think that my PC doesn't have a 2.0 USB port and I believe that's what an Apple cord has. I'm not sure exactly if it's a 2.0 but my theory is that. The laptop that I use for iTunes now is much newer than my old PC and I'm pretty sure that was my problem. If you connect a USB cable to a computer that doesn't have the same speed, the computer has trouble reading it.

I have tried different cables, and different USB ports on my PC (I know that some of them are USB 2.0), but it kept doing that stuttering connect/reconnect/connect business. Also, USB 2.0 is supposed to be entirely backwards compatible with USB 1.0, so it shouldn't cause any more problem than slower data transfer rates. What's most annoying is that it has worked fine for years on this PC, then as soon as I updated my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 4.3 (the last update but one), the problem started, stopped when iTunes updated to the current version, and started again after updating to iOS 4.3.4!

I have also just synced it on my other PC and it worked fine, but when I take it back to my main PC, it sill sounds like a bizarre doorbell - dum dum, ding, dum dum, ding... endlessly! And all my music is on this PC, so I want to be able to sync it! Or at least understand why it is happening?!

Like I said, my theory is that my computer had trouble reading it as a USB 2.0. I don't know about the backward compatible thing. But if your other computer syncs with it jsut fine, I suggest turning on Home Sharing to get all your music on to that computer. That's what I did when I found my laptop worked better than my PC. And just import the library on your computer to the other computer.

I've had this issue w/ my first gen itouch for a while and i've also read numerous threads on this issue. Tonight I stumbled upon a cable that I bought 6 years ago that has both a firewire and a USB connector, connected them both to my computer and my itouch synced flowlessly...

like a lot of other people have mentioned, its probably an issue with not enough power going into the itouch.

If you'd like to try my suggestion, all you need is a http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=apple+firewire+usb+cable&hl=en&prmd=ivn s&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.&biw=1291&bih=812&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=68252 2 0138274511276&sa=X&ei=o2Y7TthMztSAB977ze4P&ved=0CH0Q8wIwAw its a small investment in the grand scheme of things if it helps you.
