Hi William,

Yes, it means you need to reinstall compressor. It's effectively saying it can't find a command within it's own program system files to make the command 'Get Log Query' load and work. In other words its screwed up somehow 😝 - We could tell you how to put it back to normal without reinstalling but it's far less involved to simply say 'reinstall it'. The simplest way is to download the last updater from Apples site (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL949) and installing that. It has the 3.5.3 version of Compressor and will hopefully sort out Batch Log.

Whoa, sorry William. 😕 You should probably reinstall Compressor from the original disk set and then do the update (so it matches the rest of the FCS suite). It's possible that the update I linked to didn't have an update for 'Batch' along with the 'Apple Qmaster' update (which is strange as it is part of the same package afaik). I am, of course, assuming, probably wrongly, that you are using FCS3.

I am beginning to think that the Cluster never worked, or at least not with this file being sent from FCP 7 to Compressor 3.5. If I ouput the movie from FCP as Export>Quicktime Movie> then bring that file into Compressor, set up the to do a MPEG-2 conversion the Cluster works great. Since I have an8-core Mac Pro I find that if I specify 6 Instances in QMaster, it actually creates 12 processing elements.

The error message that I now get is this:

Name: Video: 00:00:00:00 to 00:05:25:29

Time Elapsed: 0:00:05

Time Remaining: 0:00:00

Percent Complete: 100

Status: Failed - HOST [the-mans-mac-pro.local] Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly quit

Where can I find out what this error is?

I believe the reason that six instances of Compressor creates 12 processing elements is because Compressor is in fact requesting six cores, which in your case are hyperthreading and providing 12 elements.

Insofar as whether the cluster ever worked or not, it's hard to say; but I believe failing to set up the OS for network rendering (radio button at install time) or failing to create a QuickCluster are things that would doom the function. Qmaster settings on the other computers on your network would be another barrier.

Hope you get everything back to normal.

I un-installed Compuressor using the FCP delete app from digitalrevolution and re-installed from the original disk. I made sure that I checked the radio button that would allow Compressor to use "distributed" processing. I then applied the ProApplications Updater 2010-002. NO JOY!

I am sorry that I ever heard of Clusters and whatnot. I don't understand what I am doing incorrectly.

I QUIT!!!

My home projects are not big enough or have enough Motion or Color "thingys" so that if I have to let it run over-night I will.

OK, so I am not quitting - yet. I gave it one more try. I used the FCP Remover and totally removed FC Studio. I even went over all the Library folders to make sure nothing was left. I have re-installed FC Studio from the original disks, and applied the ProApplicationsUpdate 2010-002. This was the only update that Software Update said I needed. But looking on the Support Page of Apple's web site, it shows two more ProKit601 and ProKit701 (not sure of the numbers exactly, but both for Snow Leopard.) Should I go ahead and install them anyway?
