uptime returns /dev/ttys002: No such file or directory

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a Mac Mini (Intel).

This was an upgrade from 10.5.

After the upgrade when I issue:

$ uptime

uptime: /dev/ttys002: No such file or directory

9:44 up 12 days, 22:08, 2 users, load averages: 0.00 0.00 0.00

$ ls /dev/ttys*

/dev/ttys0 /dev/ttys2 /dev/ttys6 /dev/ttysa /dev/ttyse

/dev/ttys000 /dev/ttys3 /dev/ttys7 /dev/ttysb /dev/ttysf

/dev/ttys001 /dev/ttys4 /dev/ttys8 /dev/ttysc

/dev/ttys1 /dev/ttys5 /dev/ttys9 /dev/ttysd

On my other Mac Mini's I don't have this problem.

On these other systems

$ file /dev/ttys002

/dev/ttys002: character special

Any suggestions?

TIA

Does this persist across Terminal sessions? Reboots?
