Well you should install another browser so you have a backup.
I suggest Firefox for now.
https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
Once you do that you'll have to tell us what you were doing that the Safari shut down occured.
Is your Flash up to date?
kac
just a note.... DONT NOT DELETE SAFARI. assuming you are using 10.6.8 ... if you dump safari itself and try to redownload you will get an error message saying 10.6.7 is required. I would suggest maybe redownloading the 10.6.8 combo update from apple again. this will just install over your current 10.6.8 and may just fix the issue. its hard to say w/o knowing more.

Flashback Trojan. Thoroughly infected. Need to run Software Update and apply the Java for MacOS X 10.6 Update 8 patch, out since yesterday afternoon. ASAP.
I'm not a computer whiz at all, infact im the complete opposite. So basically i have a virus? How can I get that Java Update done? Can I go to a Apple store and get it done? And Do you know the price for this to be done? Thank you So much, I really appreciate the response.:)
Do you own a car? Do you pay someone to go to the gas station and fill it up? Same thing here; there are routine maintenance tasks that you need to learn and do, that don't require a PhD in computer science and that will ensure you can continue to enjoy your Mac without it becoming a hazard to others.
Inside your Applications folder you will find an item that has a gear-like icon and is called System Preferences. After you run it, a window opens with all the different tasks to do for customizing the Mac. One of the items is called Software Update. If you click, ot will tell you that it checks to see if there are updated versions of the system software, whether this is set to occur automatically and if you want to Check Now. Do that, making sure your Mac has access to the Internet. After awhile, it will have called up Apple's servers and determined if there are updates available, will tell you if you want them installed. Do that. Now you wait till the updates download and are installed. If the Mac has never been updated, that may take quite awhile. You will probably be instructed to allow the Mac to restart. Follow the online indications. If you have to restart, run Software Update again afterwards and until it indicates that there are no more updates pending and the Mac is up to date. Along the way, you will see a notification pop up to tell you that the Flashback infection had been removed.
Hahahaha No the world would be a better place if we all could so that! But yes I checked it out and apparently the Automatic Updates was turned off and there were more than 2 dozen updates that needed to be done!
Thank you so much, definantly learned something new and can keep this mac up and running:) definantly don't need to be a computer whiz just needed some information. Knowloedge is power:P THanks again:)!
Congratulations. I knew you were missing a zillion updates, since your log states the Mac is at 10.6.7 and that cat was left at 10.6.8, which entails a major update. Trust the Flashback was killed somewhere along the way?
Hey! Yes it was killed, a notification popped up and confirming its removal! THANKK YOU! I was a little freaked out about that! It's running super smooth now and safari never closes!
But hey I do have another question for you. I'm trying to install a tpying program for my brother on my imac and after going through the installation process, the last step where it asks you to click install, when i do that nothing happens...and I tried the software on my macbook and it worked fine, so is there a particular setting I need to change. I've been researching but no answers...so if you have any ideas that would be great! 🙂
