Q: 8 GB ipod touch coming up as 6.46 GB?

i also have an 8 gig itouch and the reason it says that is that the other 1.54 gigs are used for the software that runs your ituoch

It's not memory with an iOS device, it's storage capacity.

The only way increase capacity is to upgrade to a 32 or 64 GB iPod touch.

That 8 gigs is for ALL the programs so as you siad it shows up as 6.46 gigs. I have the same issue.

There is no issue. The storage capacity of the iPod is a total of 8 GB. The difference between 8 GB and 6,4 is due to the IOS (operating system) taking up most of the difference and of how GBs is advertised and used. See:
