Burned CDs are missing parts of songs

I recently started backing up my iTunes purchases by organizing them into playlists and burning them to CDs, but have had problems with dropped songs. The songs play fine in iTunes and on my iPods, but part or all of some songs don't play on the CDs. For example, on one CD/playlist, a song shows up on the list of tracks, but there is a blank track with no sound where the song ought to be on the CD--the silence is exactly as long as the song--and it's in the middle of the CD with music before and after--no skipping or other problems. On another CD, three tracks (numbers 7, 11, and 13 of 19) start, but stop part way through the song with silence replacing the remaining length of the song--none of the other songs have any problems.

I have tried burning new copies of the disks, but the same problems occur--the missing song is still missing, one partial song stops in exactly the same place and one stops in a different place, although the third partial song plays just fine.

I am using iTunes 10.3.1 for Windows on a Bootcamp MacBook with Windows 7. All software and drivers appear to be up to date. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

After much searching and a LONG visit to the Genius Bar, here's what I got:

The problem: Despite normal playback in iTunes, the files for these songs have become corrupted, causing the sound to stop when converted to CD audio files and burned to disk. All other aspects of the file remain intact; thus, each song's "space on the disk" is still intact...it's just silent. This probably happened when the PC I copied the files from had a HD failure.

The solution: Delete and download again, or re-copy from the original CD--whatever you need to do to make a new file for the song on your HD.
