imovie 8.0.6 doesn't recognize video from Canon Mark 5d II

imovie 8.0.6 doesn't recognize video from Canon Mark 5d II, worked fine with 5d. imported into computer, exported thru iphoto, came out file ex. MOV which imovie doesn't read. Can I get iphoto to export dif. file ex.? 5d using same process file ex. was m4v.

imovie 09-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
