24" LED Cinema Display no longer has picture. Just a blank screen. Please help

I have a 2009/2010 24" Cinema Display that no longer turns on. The USB ports work, but I can not get any picture. My laptop also recognizes the display.

I have taken it to the apple store but they do not know what it is wrong with it and are proposing a $800 fix (replacing the main LCD and logic board). Of course I am just out of warranty, so I can't have it replaced.

Please help.

Thanks.

just had mine do the same thing, it flicked off and produced a nasty electornics burning smell right while i was there. pretty sure this is spendy to fix so ill probably just take it in for a quote but have to get something new i guess... too bad because i really liked the 24 1920x 1080 format, i find the 27s too small for my taste..

Mine was almost 3 years old when it died in the same way about 1 month ago. Burnt smell, then the black screen of death. The USB and camera still work. The Apple store told me it would cost ~$700 to fix. "Or you can get a refurbished 27 inch display for about the same price" they said. Why on earth would I want to buy another Apple display when this one didn't even last 3 years?! Sorry but I'm going to have to get another brand. Apple obviously has problems with quality control, I'm not willing to take that gamble. This is either poor engineering or very good and cleaver engineering for it to die just beyond the warranty. . .

Same issue here today. First the smell of burning electronics, than the screen died. USB and power adapter are still working, but no video. I will have to go to an Apple authorized technician to get it repaired ASAP.

What really disappoints me is that I bought it from ebay 3 weeks ago. It was used and without warranty. My previous display was a 23" Cinema Display which run perfect for more than 3 years and was also used before and without warranty. It seems for me that recently there is something wrong with Apple quality. I hope for a cheap repair. Else, I'll go with a Dell.

So an update on my display. My wife was able to talk to the manager at the local Apple store and he agreed to pay for an Apple certified repair place to fix my display (they weren't able to do that at the Apple store). The problem was a logic board (part # 661-4823). They replaced the LCD panel first but that didn't fix the problem. It was the logic board. Now the display works like a champ. Hope this helps people with the same problem that I had.

I experienced the same a few days ago. I left my display with the genius bar... they also instinctively thought it was the LCD panel not the logic board..but have ordered and are making the attempt to replace the logic board for $125. If it turns out to be the LCD, I'm looking at around $650...... Yes its very very frustrating for a display to go bad after only 4 years of owning it. Even $125 is an irritating inconvenience.
