This just started happening... I have not connected iPhone to my Windows machine, but the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe service just decided to start being a glutton... Any one know why??

Thanks

"I have this issue too" everyone who has this problem needs to send a note here so we can get this fixed sooner rather than later.!!!

As of the update earlier today. I'm showing AppleMobileDeviceService at 25% on a Quad core. iTunes takes up an additional 25% for a total of 50%, with 66% on two cores and 33% on the other two cores.

Following D528's note OKAY HERE IS THE FIX in

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3200832?start=60&tstart=0

which essentially is an uninstall of Apple software on the system and reinstall iTunes with a couple of sequence and some specific reboot instructions, worked OK.   (I skipped his step 8)

It resolved the iTunes and AMDS cpu consumption on my Windows XP system.

I can now connect to the store.   Synced with iPad and iPod nano.   No CPU hogs.  I did not reinstall Safari, so don't know if it resolved that.   Podcasts updates and app updates worked.

I had the same problem described here. Solution was to reinstall iTunes. However! You have to do it this way:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US

There are 6 componants to remove, confirm they are removed, and reinstall. It took about 20 minutes. Computer is purring like a kitten.  The above instructions are for reinstalling with Windows XP, but there are links for Vista and 7.

nice but one should not have to do this to get ones system purring...apple needs to to release a kb stat

The complete uninstall and reinstall of all Apple items per the link posted by tsonjapple worked for me too, at last!

I had this problem, too! Ridiculous. Followed the complete uninstall and re-install instructions, and I'm back in business. I agree though that I shouldn't have had to waste hours on this due to an automated upgrade yesterday.

Well,  re-installed Safari and MobileMe, which I had deferred.   Not a good idea.

Before, after the uninstall of Apple products and reinstall of iTunes 10.4 and things were OK.   Had sync'd iPod and iPad several times with no issues.

As soon as I used the Updater and installed Safari and Mobile Me, AppleMobileDeviceService.exe began grinding away.  Did not even try to start Safari.  Uninstalled Safari and Mobile Me.    AMDS still grinding, so terminated it.   Started iTunes.  And it looks like iTunes is now grinding away.   Ugh.  No access to Apple Store  - that part of screen is blank.

Will see if a reboot is sufficient or if I need to make another pass at uninstalling Apple products.

onward...     Reboot wasn't sufficient.  Ugh.      So uninstalled all Apple software , rebooted, installed iTunes 10.4

The install started iTunes before I told it not to.  Not looping.   iTunes Store is working.

I won't attempt Safari install this time.

SAme problem totally shut down my computer. I followed the steps... a slow painful process since CPU was running around 100%... but it worked! Whew!

    Bruce,

The fix worked for my computer, delaying the AMD to automatic delayed.

    Thanks!

SURELY Apple is working on the problem and will have the solution soon.  I will just shut down iTunes until then.  Is there a way to get notified?  Oh, yeah - it is taking 100% of my CPU!

Well the latest QuickTime update got me.

Same symptioms with iTunes and AppleMobileDeviceService as before.

So repeated the uninstall Apple produts, reboot, install iTunes, reboot ritual.  And back to operational and no 100% cpu..   I guess I really don't need the QuickTime fixes.

Used the previously downloaded iTunes 10.4.0.80

Hey - me too! Have wasted so much time on this the past week. Thought I had a virus or something. Started with not allowiing Outlook to synch because CPU was at 100%. Shutting off AMDS cured it - until you reboot. Hope they come up with a fix soon.

    Registered to say...

    "Me too!"

What kind of way to do business is this?  Every time I plug in my iPhone there's an itunes update or an iphone update, or some other apple update.  Do some regression testing.  Get it right.
