Hi All I have the same problem too - have searched all over and Apple simply does not know what is the problem. Loads of beating around the bush. Disk Utility here, Battery there - If you look about here you will find loads of similar problems but no solutions - whaich does not really suprise me... very sad - I decided to trash the mack and have a pc instead...

I'm going nuts here! For over three weeks I've had to go onto AOL's website to read or write emails because the Mail on my MacBook Pro keeps "spinning" and spinning and spinn—

You know what I'm talking about.

What's going on? I've done the troubleshooting. Followed AOL's set-up, gone back into Mail Preferences to check or uncheck SSL's, ports, idle boxes. . .you name it, I've done it. Several times.

I've restarted. Deleted mailboxes and re-installed. Changed passcodes. Verified all places have the same passcode, same ports, same routing.

WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE?

I must meniton that this AOL / Mail thing has been a thorn since I bought this new laptop over a year ago. I've got the same issues on our new iPhone 4S's, using Verizon. AOL says it's Apples problem....and vice versa.

Does anyone have a solution?

How stuck are you on AOL? It has been a mediocre service at best since it's inception 2 decades ago...

You can also try just cleaning up your mac's OS. What version OS are you running (are you up-to-date?), if not I would advise doing so first.

And then you could try cleanmymac of mackeeper to help manage old caches, logs, apps, etc (get rid of what's not needed).

also, using Disk Utility, click on your primary partition on the right menu, and run Verify Disk Permissions and Repair Disk Permissions....

good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions n0|imit. To answer your questions:

I'm operating 10.6.8 and current with updates. However, a possible glitch could be that I have NOT updated to Lion...actually I was "in the process of installing it" many months ago when I remembered reading that people were having major problems with their computers after changing to Lion. Many folks commented they wished they had never updated.

Me...in all my computer know-how....stopped the download or update or install or whatever. Midstream. And that's how it's been for months. A faded icon of Lion is on my Dock waiting to finish installing, but I'm afraid.

That may or may not contribute to other problems I'm having....BUT the email problems have been an issue for years. And on different devices be it my old PowerBook, the tower, the iPhones, the iPad. I can't fault my botched Lion download/install for that.

Anyway, I'm currently looking in the Disk Utility like you suggested and I've already run Verify Disk Permissions on the Macintosh HD...and was shocked at the amount of items listed that weren't correct. Repair Disk Permission completed a moment ago. UH oh...now my attempt to Verify Disk just prompted me: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as you Mac OS X installation disk) and then use your Disk Utility to repair this disk."

I may have opened a whole stinky can of worms here. . .

Thanks though for your suggestions. All are appreciated.
