I get this message at startup:
Insecure Startup Item Disabled
"/Library/Startupitems/LoginServer" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
What does it mean and how do I get rid of it?

Select the text between the quotes in your message above. From the menu bar, select Safari > Services > Files and Folders > Show Info. Click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the Info window and authenticate. If necessary, change the permissions of the item to:
system Read & Write
wheel (group) Read only
everyone Read only
From the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items." Close the Info window.
YEs thank you so much for the reply and suggestion. I have done the steps you described, except that there's no "wheel (group)" person. Between "system" and "everyone" lies "administrators," not "wheel."
Use the "Administrators" group instead. That should work, as long as it's read-only. If not, you'll have to use the shell.
Didn't work, I am sorry to say. What do you mran by "shell"?
Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
sudo sh -c ' chown -R 0:0 /Library/Startupitems ; chmod -R u+rwX,go-w $_ '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Quit Terminal and try again.
