when using or in Finder press command + K ( connect to server ) or navigate to GO in the finder menu and connect to server, smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or hostname/share, or if it's supports AFP, then afp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or hostname/share
I'm new to apple (1st week). went to finder, entered +k, and see files. but I don't see "connect to server"

Not +K, command K
Or click on desktop and go to the Go menu, it's at the bottom of the menu.
I got as far as seeing the macbook pro on my pc computers... but i cannot see my pc (specifically, the readyNAS folders) that I can see on my pc network.
To be a little more clear,
my pc's can see the apple public folder, but my mac cannot see the network shared folders from the pc network.
it's prob. because they are not boardcasted on your network, can you atleast connect to the Windows machine via ip address or hostname /share?
tried.. can see the the computers via "remote desktop connection"... also can access the server, which is enabled for remote desktop access. But I cannot see any files for Ready NAS, for that matter, no pc files which are peer to peer shared on my network.
Simply, the mac cannot see any files from any other pc. Only way I can see the other files is via the remote desktop. With that method, the files are apropriately locked, and cannot be "shared" to another computer.
again mac simply cannot see any other file or computer on the network
connect to ready NAS
