Anyone know if they work or even install? Thanks!
I tested this, and here are my results:
At first, the installation said "You don't need this software" (or something similar), so I thought Lion might have Unitor drivers built-in. However, further testing revealed that it doesn't. My daisy-chained AMT8s were shown in the USB bus (in System Information), but Audio MIDI setup did not see them.
Then I tried the installation again, and for some reason, now it worked, and the installation continued normally. No error messages or anything. The driver (EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin) was placed in /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers as in Snow Leopard, and now Audio MIDI setup recognized the AMT8s.
Please note that I only tested the installation; I don't yet have any audio/MIDI software installed in Lion, so I don't know if any of this actually WORKS...
My setup:
Mac Pro (Early 2008)
Mac OS X 10.7
Unitor Family Driver 2.5 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL991)
Hi heilei,
Do keep us posted. I have Unitor8mkII and would like to think I could continue using it when I jump (no time soon) to LION.
Many thanks, Kendall
PS- I have an Emagic A6/2 that I use with my laptop. I already know that it will not work in LION.
Hi Kendall,
Yes, I'll keep you posted. One thing to remember is, that even if the driver turns out to be Lion-compatible, the good old SoundDiver-based Unitor Control app is not (it's PowerPC only). The only remaining support that we have (AFAIK) is this: http://www.potm.org/software/Unitor. It's Universal, but Lion compatibility is still unknown.
The Unitor8 is supported: just plug the Unitor8/AMT8 or MT4 into your Mac and run "Software Update". The driver will be downloaded automatically.
Fantastic, thanks for all the "updates"! Nice to I can use my Unitor8 in LION.

Thanks Blueberry, this is really good news! I suppose my problem was, that I didn't have my AMT8s powered on when I first tried the installation. You don't happen to have any information regarding the PowerPC control app (or a replacement for it)...?
I have written a driver for the Emagic A6|2m for Lion. The audio works. I haven't tested the Midi.
Instructions for assembling the driver can be found at http://www.jazzmedia.com.au/a62m.php.
John
Thanks John. I don't have LION yet but when I do, I will give your driver a shot. I hope to keep alive my Unitor MKII and my lesser used A6/2.
Please keep us posted as you test the MIDI.
Cheers, Kendall
I used my installation disc that came with the emagic mt4 and it worked...
now I want to run my mpc with garage band...any suggestions?
The Unitor8/AMT8 and MT4 have a fully working driver for all OS X version with 64-bit and all. Installation is trivial: software update with the device attached.
The A6|2 or A2|6m haven't seen an update in many years, I think pretty much since Apple bought Emagic.
Dear Blueberry,
I am going through the process of setting up Logic 9 to sync with my Akai MG614 4-Track tape machine. I am using OS 10.7.4 and want to be able to use UNITOR8 Control to stripe the tape with my UNITOR 8 mkII.
Please can you advise? The Unitor drivers that I have on CD are of course old and work on the classic OS but not OSX.
Many, many thanks!
Xan
Read this thead, your answer is already in it:
"The Unitor8 is supported: just plug the Unitor8/AMT8 or MT4 into your Mac and run "Software Update". The driver will be downloaded automatically."
Thanks Blueberry. I sas that earlier but my specific aim was to find out how to stripe tape with Timecode using the UNITOR with Logic 9 and OSX Lion. You were able to do that before withUNITOR8 Control but from re-reading the Logic manual today, it seems that I go to the General Tab in the Sync Options for Unitor in Logic 9 and select "Generate".
Fingers crossed that works. Thanks for your help.
