What is your reaction to using Lion?

Lion in my opinion is a faulty service pak. It is no way a new os. My sound does not work, my imac is slower, overall it is a nothing upgrade. Not flashy or wow like when windows 7 came out. Its buggy, boring and not worth the upgrade

Nobody ever likes the interface changes that come with a new system, yet invariably want that interface back as soon as the next system is released. It's really silly. Makes me laugh every time. "Aqua is so ugly! It looks like I'm in kindergarten!" "I want aqua back, I hate this brushed metal!" Now it's lack of color and faux-leather interfaces. Can people really not get past the form and focus on function? Except for some relatively minor interface changes and some shiny new toys to play with, Lion looks and feels an awful lot like Snow Leopard.

As for PowerPC apps, well, people said the same thing about Classic apps in Snow Leopard, had the same complaint when support for 68K apps were dropped when Apple transitioned to the PowerPC chip, etc. The tech world moves on. If you're not ready to move with it, don't. Stick with Snow Leopard.

I feel like a beta tester...

oh, some setting, in particular to mouse and trackpad work better to restart after you make the changes.

Scrolling uncheck natural is one of them..did not change until restart

I enjoy Lion. I understand why some people hate it, but I feel that it fits my workflow a lot more intuitively.

But with that said I do have some suggestions:

- Spaces shouldn't arbitrarily change their order (which has happened to me twice).

- It should be possible to rename Spaces that aren't displaying fullscreen apps; I don't need Desktop 1, Desktop 2, etc. I need to be able to name the desktops for "full-screened" apps that haven't yet received Lion updates.

- It should be possible to move Spaces around; I don't like being forced to open my apps in a specific order to get the layout I want (and then to lose that layout when they arbitrarily change order).

Lion right now seems very buggy, but that should be fixed with time. For example, Google search suggestions don't appear in Safari when using full screen mode. As far as new features, the Versions thing really bothers me. Why do I have to perform an extra two steps just to do a simple "Save As" command.

Well, I like the new Mission Control and Launchpad. It's easier to add spaces now. I like some of the gestures, but I don't think they were necessary additions.

I miss the Aqua look of previous versions of OS X. The gray scroll bars look drab compared to the 3D look of Aqua.

Why is the Library folder hidden? Yes, I've already used the Terminal command to unhide it, but why should there be an extra step to access something most people would never think of tampering with anyway? Now those of us who are familiar with the Library folder have to open Terminal.

Why no option to turn off Resume permanently?

Where's the four finger swipe across for the App Switcher? I used that all the time.

Why no Power PC support? Why was SL able to handle it but not Lion?

Address Book and iCal look kind of traditional but I preferred the slicker look of previous versions.

I have to say I'm underwhelmed by Lion so far. I don't like this direction Apple is going in with making things look like iOS. A computer is not a smartphone. I pray to god that the powers that be at Apple are looking at some of these reactions to Lion and fix some of this stuff in future updates very very soon.

You can kind of turn Resume off. In the General Pane of System Preferences, uncheck Restore Windows when opening and quitting apps.

Features I'm impressed with? I can tell you if I can just get the **** OS installed on at least one of my macs. Leo to SnowLeo was really smooth and trouble free. Lion's upgrade / install process is by far the most painful I've experienced, it brings back the horrors of Windows upgrades.

Right now I'm stuck with Lion's installer whining "disk is locked", with no way of reverting to SnowLeo except for a complete system restore from my external mirror.

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed here, but the thing I find most surprising is, how unstable Lion seems to be - and when it freezes, I often cannot force-quit the offending application, but have to do a hard restart - at which point one is left to hope that, whatever windows are automatically loaded, will not take the entire system down again.

Oh, I forgot my pet peeve so far...

Full screen apps on an external display. Sometimes I like to have a movie showing full screen on my external monitor so when I have company they can watch a movie while I continue to work on my Macbook Pro's screen. Or I have iTunes' visualizer going on full screen on the external just for eye candy while I work on my MBP. But now when I make these apps full screen, they shift over to the MBP display, making it impossible to work and leaving the external screen full of nothing but gray space.

Grrrr...

Edit: iTunes seems to work the same, it's DVD Player that is driving me crazy, unless someone knows of some way to keep it full screen on the external display. There used to be an option for this in Preferences but not anymore.

Grey on grey icons, designbreak with ical and address book (with a silly "lifelike" design that i find very distracting), hidden Library folder in ~. I won't describe myself as "impressed".

I love Lion! I'm always surprised to read about all the problems people seem to have. Like when iPad first came out. I had already ordered mine but after reading about all the problems, I wondered if I had done the right thing. I had. I had no problems whatsoever.

Same with Lion. I love using the new direction on the mouse. It's taking a little getting used to, but I think it's great. I love LaunchPad! I love Mission Control. And the swipe on my mouse is very slick! Don't have to go up and find the little "back" arrow. The email is great. In fact, this will be the first time that I've ever used Apple's mail. And being able to sort and group programs and documents and files is awesome.

Can't say enough good about it. Snow Leopard pales by comparison. Granted, I didn't feel this way right away...only after trying out all the goodies in "real life."

10.4 was buggy when it was released.

10.5 was really buggy when it was released.

10.6 was buggy when it was released.

10.7 is no different.

Previous Versions really didn't come into their own greatness until at least 2 or 3 updates had been released.

I'm definately not updating my Xserver with Lion until at least 10.7.3.

Installed 10.7 on my c2009 Macbook Pro 2.53 C2D last night. I've had about 2 hours to tinker with 10.7. I do notice & appreciate the speed. It's seems 'snappier'. But that's about the only thing I like. Kind of wish I'd stuck with 10.6 for a few more weeks.

The gestures are nutty, but I think I'll get used to them and will probably grow to appreciate them. Except for the scrolling. Not sure what Apple was thinking with that. Luckily it's easy to revert that back.

Maybe I just don't "get" Launchpad. Why do I want app icons on screen and in the Dock at the same time? Seems extremely superfluous. If I wanted an iOS interface & modal apps, I'll use my iPad. Thanks. If this iOS-esque UI is the future of all Apple interfaces, then I forsee myself returning to Windows.

Full screen is nice, but again, I don't get why it's such a "gee whiz" feature. I mean, Windows apps maximize, and the Start bar can be set to auto-hide. So, why again is this amazing?

Not really digging Mail 5. Seems buggier than Mail in 10.6. And the unread mail icon badge doesn't seem to work.

Oh, and I can't use my Buffalo Linkstation for Time Machine anymore because Apple borked the file protocols and Buffalo has dropped the ball on supporting it. That's not Apple's fault, of course, but it ticks me off because now I'll have to buy a new NAS, go back to a USB drive, or wait for Buffalo to figure out how to support 10.7 (months?). Guess I should have bought a Time Capsule. 😝

I think with a couple of patches 10.7 will be deemed "good". I'm just concerned about the direction that Apple seems to be headed in terms of UI design.

I like it. It makes sense to have the gestures and bring it more inline with mobile, well at least to me on a Macbook, however I do agree that the scrolling up and down is backward 😕 and the gestures might not work as such on a desktop Mac.

I quiet like the design of iCal and I love the fact I can chose what day my week starts as it makes it more accesible for me to use for work as our working week runs from Saturday to Friday.

Love the full screen display wish this had been the case when I bought my Macbook in April as I might have gone for a smaller screen 😉

Like others I can't see the point of Launchpad, I have my desktop empty and if I want anything I can open the folder from the dock.

Not really had to time to look at other things, but interested in how Mail and Versions works, hopefully will get more time over the weekend.
