Oneironaut, I think you got confused. I do not have ANY problem using full screen apps on an external monitor. I was just pointing out to the fact that Lion is NOT YET installed on my desktop!

Like you it seems, I am a professional user. I handle about 450 high end design projects a year, to give you an idea. So, no, I am not in my mom's basement fretting about yet another conspiracy.

I'm sorry if you do experience problems and feel left out in the cold. I just don't feel that way at all. I dress pretty all the time though. Really you should see that. I'm sure you'd swoon,

Oh and by the way that was humour. 🙂

NOW, I am on to INSTALL Lion on my desktop too. Pray for I do not come back spilling more hyperuniversal gut over here... 😝

The people that have the money and time to spend on Final Cut Pro are PROFESSIONALS, people who ARE in front of a computer for hours at a time doing professional work, hence the word PRO. Software like this is not for people who want to minimize their time in front of the computer. That's what iMovie is for.

For my work as a video editor, I DO need to use close to 100% of what FCP can do, and I spent a lot of time and effort getting my Apple Pro certification to prove that know this software inside and out. There is no need to dumb it down. They could have done that with FC Express.

Some technology, like smartphones and tablets, ARE supposed to make things so easy even a child can do them. But a PROFESSIONAL computer like a Mac PRO or a Macbook PRO is used by PROFESSIONALS doing work on programs like Final Cut PRO. We aren't just young hipsters using Final Cut Lite on a Macbook Lite or an iPad or iPhone.

Dom, when you install Lion, you'll see what I mean. If you try to have an app remain on your external monitor in full screen and still have your notebook's screen to work with, there's no way to do it. There is no point in having an external monitor if you can't even keep an app in full screen on it. This isn't a glitch in my system... there's just no way, at present, that Lion can do this, and it's a glaring oversight that affects the professionals who must use their Macs with external displays.

Your argument must be valid, trusting on your PROFESSIONAL emphasis. However, the professional thing to do would be to investigate and find solution instead of whining. And I an not saying that to be mean.

I KNOW what it is to be in a PROFESSIONAL environment and all of a sudden lose info, lose grip, and lose a lot. But then, the major aim was towards SOLUTION instead of foam.

You know, our worst enemy is not an Apple system upgrade (or any other brand for the matter0 but merely our level of handling things. Or not,

That said, I truly wish you good luck with it all, and that is sincere.

Then this is pure magic and God really created the universe after all.

That *****.

I beg to think differently though.

Sorry.

However I do empathize with your frustration.

Have a drink.

Smile.

And get back to it.

I'm fairly certain no lion can beat you as none can beat me either.

We're talking about brainless computers here. Not any alien invasion..!

Chin up!

The reason why I'm "whining" is because there simply is no solution. This thread is about our reactions to Lion, is it not? Well, my reaction is that it makes no sense not to have full screen capability on an external display. Why is it MY fault if Apple did not include this feature? What am I supposed to do? I looked high and low for a solution and there isn't one. That's not MY fault, it's Apple's. Snow Leopard and every other version of OS X I've used had this capability. I know my way around a Mac. I know how to handle and troubleshoot issues on one. But this has nothing to do with my ability to discover solutions or handle anything because this capability simple DOES NOT EXIST (yet).

This discussion is about our reactions and I'm giving you my reaction in hopes that someone from Apple sees this enough times to return this function to OS X with the very next update. It really is unacceptable, considering all the people who use FCP, Photoshop and other graphics and video apps.

Despite what you may think, I'm not in any way making fun out of you, and truly understand how you must feel. However, if you expect Apple to "see" and notice something here, you're very mistaken. Your best luck is to file a bug report via the Apple Developer page. Check earlier messages in this thread for how to, if you do not know.

I certainly do not deny what your experience is, since, through the years, I have been experiencing quite a bunch of strange things. All of them had a reason, ever. That's actually my point. Computers do not decide to hassle anyone out of the blue. In 99.99% of cases, there IS a reason for a glitch or bug.

Sure, it's tiresome and upsetting. That's why I empathize.

Do not trust me on that, however, I am telling you, give it a couple days or weeks and you'll love this system.

It's installed on my desktop now and again I'm not experiencing anything bad, at least for now.

Maybe I'm ust lucky. But I tend not to believe in charms.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there doesn't seem to be any reason why full screen apps on external monitors is missing. It's simply an oversight on Apple's part, and that's that. In a few weeks' or months' time, it may be added, but this thread is about our reactions to Lion as it is NOW, not what it might be like in the future. I'm fairly confident that Apple WILL address this. But this example, along with the removal of the Trackpad gesture for the App Switcher as well as the shortcomings of FCP X, signify an alarming trend towards taking away functionality rather than adding it. I understand wanting to add some of the look and feel but iOS, but it shouldn't come at the expense of functionality.

The topic of this post was our reaction to Lion, and I gave it. It didn't ask for only the positive things we might like.
