What is your reaction to using Lion?

Lion provides for some innovative features. What features are your most impressed with?

I'm impressed that Apple throw to the garbage years of nice design and funcionality, desktop computers are NOT mobile devices, why try to imitate iOS when they serve differnt purposes? Those gestures thing are really unprecise and annoying.

Lion is just grey and UGLY! They could have done the same window effects to Snow Leopard and that would work better.

No PowerPC Applicationss? Snow Leoprd had Rossetta and things worked!

Have you seen the loading bars & buttons? it looks like Windows badly designed, and iCal & Address Book, I hope there is a way to skin them, they're just ugly, they should got some skin templates from the internet, most of them are nicer than that!!

and I could go on and on, but is pointless.

I'm not affraid of change, in fact change is nessesary but why not to change for the better?

Lion is a big leap... backwards.

I wouldn't call it "most impressed", but I like the new Mail. And that would be about it. I don't use Launchpad (small icons are cool on a small iOS screen, but these oversized icons covering my 27" screen are tacky at best, especially when I'd have to filter through 8 pages of them to find what I need) - the dock is one click and I can add my own folders or docs to it, thank you. And I do not care for Resume - I like to start with a clean slate; there would be very few instances where I would be doing the same thing every morning. At least, I can disable it, but it's extra steps I don't really want.

it may run faster (maybe)

That may be, but it also seems to be a memory hog - screen shot from Activity Monitor; the only thing open is Firefox ; it's using 2.70 GB of RAM and kernel_task is using about twice the RAM it does in SL:

I've got 12 GB RAM, so it doesn't bother me, but the system requirements state a minimum of 2 GB and I have to question that.

I must say that I must learn a lot all over again which is VERY frustrating and time consuming! I think Apple is trying to help us out but in many respects they are not. The main think that is very frustraing for me is that when I want to scroll down a page I just used to swipe down to view further down the page, now it's backwards which I think is counterintuitive! Why in the world would I want to scroll up to view the bottom of the page and vice versa? It is so frustrating learning new things that don't even make sense. We should be able at least have the option in choices and to make our computers work better for our individual needs and wants - most of my tailored preferences are gone and it seems like I must start from scratch once again.

I was excited about the Lion transfer/upgrage that I watched all the videos and read the tutorials, but now I am not that excited at all. I have to be careful of all my movements on the track-pad because my screen changes rapidly from what I was working on and or viewing and I must take time to switch my view back to where I was.

I'm sure the more I work with Lion the more things I will find out that I don't like. I cannot even access my widgets without it flipping out and back to what I was working on at the moment. I also give a thumbs down for Lion due to the fact that the simple things I did before the "upgrade" are now complicated.

I sent this message originally as a reply to altoburgo from Australia but the reply did not go through because there was an error of some sorts. Then I received a message that I was not "authorized to make changes" even though it was my reply.

There is always going to be a transition period when upgrading and hopefully you will get all the features back you are used to. I have not had enough time to play around with Lion yet but I am also fairly new to Macs, just returned after about 15 years away on Win machines so I wasn't used to everything yet. As far as the scrolling, I noticed that immediately too but have read you can change it back if you want.

Love the new mail layout, as I used to use an addon to get something like it is now. So far I've only run into an ARD glitch + iWeb problem, but everything else seems just perky. LaunchPad is a joke, but it was only eye candy anyway. For me, Mail was worth the price of admission with threaded conversations and the cleaner interface. Oh yeah, versioning is going to be cool as other vendors sign up for that.

I'll keep it short as there will be a lot of posts..

I was excited before, at first and still am a little.. But then problems start showing up.

At first after upgrading I heard you had to use software update to install a very important "migration" update. Lion disagreed with Apple and decided not to notify me of this migration update, so probably something won't work now. I just have to figure out what and that's really messing up my head, because something will be broke. The big question is what as I have no clue what that update I skipped was.

With no Rosetta even Intel applications won't work correctly, for instance StarCraft II. A game that would crush any PowerPC computer, won't run properly on Lion. A lot of stuff won't work or is gone..

I think I understand why our upgrades are so cheap (€5 per computer), compared to the super expensive Windows upgrades: it's not OS X 11. Just a minor upgrade, with minor plusses and some minuses.

It really killed my excitement and that's very painful to say as an Apple guy. But alas, it's not the first time Apple disappointed us with something way from the iPhone to the Mac and I wouldn't switch to Windows for a dime (unless that dime could buy me a Mac). So I guess I'll just stick to: fine.. But I'm not very happy.

And why is the library hidden? Who comes up with that stuff..

You can change that in System Preferences for Mouse and Trackpad by disabling "Scroll Direction: Natural". What is the correct definition of natural or not is between you and Apple 😉

Ain't that the truth! I too feel like I have to "fight" with Lion in ways I didn't have to in Snow Leopard.

Examples:

- Can't do a quick and dirty edit of videos in Quicktime now and then just Save As a .MOV file in a few seconds, you can only now "export" any edits, which means encoding, which means waiting forever. Sigh.

- Gestures are infuriating: is that two, three or four fingers? up or down? left or right? scrunched up in a ball or spread out like a fan? LOL. And you can easily "trigger" something inadvertently, sending all the windows on your desktop flying.

- Having to constantly un-check "Resume where you left off" when shutting down or restarting the computer - it's crazy there is no universal setting to turn this off once and for all, I want a clean desktop when I re-start.

- Heaven only knows how to get Finder to present information in a consistent format across all folders and sub folders.

- iCal and Address Book re-design? Ugly! And now you can no longer increase the font in Address Book, so I'm having to squint on my 17" MBP (when oh when will we get Resolution Independence on the Mac???).
