Q: Logic Pro 8 is not supported under Lion?

Is there a reason why Logic Pro 8 is NOT supported by  Lion. I have been holding off buying Logic 9  for the next Logic release and now I am a little dead in the water. Is my only real option to go back to Snow Leopard? I still don't understand how Logic 8 and Intel native app could fall over.

    Hi, Hayah.

I have a boxed version of Logic Pro 8. Using Pacifist, I successfully installed the whole Meta package includong libraries, jam tracks etc onto a new mac mini running Mountain lion.

It was an upgrade from LP 7. Weirdly, I now have to have the XSkey plugged in or LP 8 asks for my serial numbers every time I load it.

[On the Older MBP LP 7 was installed first. This is why - I suspect - the New Install of LP 8 wants the key. Its not on the new machine]

After the install I upgraded to ver 8.0.2. Everything runs fine.

Avul tool did crash Logic when evaluating multiple plugins, but that's easily fixed by restarting Logic or using the Audio Unit manager to evaluate each plugin separately.

    Hope this helps,

    regards,

Your reasonsing about why you need the XSkey inserted in your new Mac but not your old one..is correct.... It's an oddity with the licencing system that requires this in certain circumstances.

However if you should ever update to Logic 9 on your new Mac, the requirement for the XSkey goes away.. as the version of Logic 9 from the App Store, is the full version and doesn't rely on any previous versions to install... though you must remove the Logic Studio System and/or ProApps ID files usually found in /Library/Application Support/ProApps, prior to install of the App Store Logic 9,  for that to be true in every case... oyherwise it will ask for prior serial numbers to complete installation oddly enough.

I supsect all these odd behaviors will vanish upon the next major release of Logic as then everyone will be installing a full version and no one will be using upgrade versions of Logic Pro like they still can with Logic Pro 9 or earlier... if they own the boxed sets...

    Hi, Art Of Sound.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, and the additional information.

Well, I took the plunge and updated to OSX 10.8.3. So far, no problems with Logic 8 or any of my other programs. With Logic, the M-Audio General Midi Module failed validation but that's inconsequential to be as I don't use M-Audio. And so far it seems that Mountian Lion handles Logic better than Snow Leopard did. And while I'm at it I really like how much longer my battery lasts.
