Install Snow Leopard on new MacBook Air?

Since this comes with Lion installed, is it possible to downgrade to Snow Leopard? Is there anything that would prohibit me from booting up with a Snow Leopard disk?

OS X 10.7.1 Lion is the worst operating system Apple has ever put out. It is the "Vista" for Apple. I really want to enjoy my brand new Macbook Air, but I cannot do so because of this awful OS.

So, since I cannot install Snow Leopard on my Air, Is it possible to install a version of Linux and wipe my Apple OS off the box completely? I bet there is! I know I can install Windows 7 on here, and even though that's not ideal, it would be better than Lion.

Thanks Apple!

Why not just create a new partition using Bootcamp ad install your operating system under that. You can set it up so most of your HDD is for the Liux or whatever. You will still have to have Lion on your system, but because you will have dual boot, set it up so you boot into Linux. You will never have to see Lio again. I upgraded to Lion and have been very satisfied with it. Although some of my apps won't work under Lion, I have found replacements for them.

Anybody know if this would work? How is it different from just booting into a SL system by choosing in Startup Disk? Does Bootcamp provide the display driver?

As much as I have Intuit, I have yet to find a good replacement for Quicken under Lion.

Thanks.

Of course it will work, partition the drive for BootCamp, install Windows7 and then install Quicken, more conveniently install Windows in a VM and run Quicken from there.

Hi,

the short answer is no - the MacBook Air has new hardware, the drivers for which were never compiled into any version of Snow Leopard.

same with the current Mac Mini.

MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro models can still "turn back the clock", until new versions with new hardware are released.

Hi All,

I'm using the new mb Air 11" 4GB version. Has someone found a way to get snow leopard running on it? Without hiccups?

Lion is, as someone in this post said, the Vista of OSX operating systems.

Lion is faster and as stable as SL on every installation i have done, what did you do to yours?

i've tried lion two weeks. no way i'll use that crap anymore.

i've run back to sl as fast as i could.

i really like the new 11" 128 gb: it's actually the perfect machine for my necessities, but i can't buy it for the os.

has anybody tried to create a bootcamp partition adn install snow leopard in it? then bootcamp should load the lion particular driver.

i'd create a 90% disk space with bc, then install sl, load all the drivers from lion, wipe lion partition, and change boot preferences in efi.

could this approach work? could anybody with the new hw try? i'm tring to avoid to buy 1k $ mac and throw it out of the "windowS" after half an hour...

many thanks...

VMWare's Fusion DID and WILL have a check which prevented/will prevent you from installing the CLIENT version of SL. With 4.1 they accidentally zapped this check so you can now successfully install a SL guest OS with VMWare. BUT, VMWare is aware, thanks to a reveal by MacWorld and reported over at MacRumors, and a patch is forthcoming. So hurry up and buy Fusion 4.1 if you want to virtualize SL.

Note: AirDisk won't work, so the SL install DVD must be in a USB DVD drive. Otherwise, create the SL virtual machine on another Mac with an internal optical drive, then copy over the virtual machine file to the MBA once you've installed Fusion.

P.S. Anyone tried this method of installing SL directly?
