HI - I've seen various comments on how to do this. I've tried to go into the folder, double click on the name (normally untitled) but it won't allow me to rename.

Anyone know how you rename folders in launchpad ?

etresoft's solution worked for me. I quit the Dock from Activity Monitor and now I can rename Launchpad folders. (I tested on a guest account first and discovered that it was working over there already.)

Open the folder in Launchpad, then double tap on it's name. You can then rename it.

nope!! i can't double click it.... doesn't work for me , anyone else with this bug ?

Once you've created a folder, click the folder in launchpad. From there you can single click the name to edit. Hopefully that works

It's not a bug, you shouldn't change the name of an application.

It will lose its file associations and not be recognizable for update.

If that's what you want create a Stack in Dock and rename the aliases.

Click and hold on the folder and it should start to jiggle around. Click on the folder again and it will open. Then click on the name of the folder and you will then be able to change it

Nope - none of these work. I dont want to rename the application. just the folder in launchpad.  I am starting to think there's a bug here. Are you guys on a Beta on the version released today ?

jameslee88, I have just performed my method before posting this very post. Click and hold the folder in Launchpad until they start to jiggle around. Then click the folder and the folder will open. The name of the folder will then be displayed in the upper left in white writing. Click it, wait a second, and then the text will become editable and you can rename it to whatever you would like. I am using the final version that was released today. I have renamed many folders using this method since installing Lion a couple of hours ago.

thanks Nathan. I've now tried every way possible and double clicking or single clicking the folder name has no effect on my machine,

Having the same issue. I was able to rename one that had already existed (automatically created by launchpad) - but any folders that I made myself by dragging icons defaulted to names like "Social Networking" and "Untitled" - neither of which was what i wanted, and neither of which was i able to change.

Same problem. Either in standard mode or jiggle mode, clicking or double clicking on the folder name does nothing.

I am having the same issue. I cannot rename any of the folders with any of the above methods... ! I have a bunch of folders with UNTITLED now/ :-)

Same here, just cannot rename folders.  I've tried all the suggested idea.  Operating a Macbook pro, 3.06 intel core duo

I'm having the same problem. I can't change the folder and I have a bunch of "untitled" folders.

First try to create a new account and see if you have the same problem there. If not, it is likely just a preferences problem. First try quitting the Dock from Activity Monitor. It should start right back up again. If that doesn't fix it, go into ~/Library/Application Support/Dock and delete all the DB files. You should probably quit the Dock again or, even better, log out and back in.

You will have to type ⌘ G in the Finder and type "~/Library/Application Support/Dock" to get to that folder. Bummer Apple, it sure didn't take long to have to unhide the Library foolder, eh?
