If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware or software you must rely upon working correctly. It's advised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third party software updates and other issues are resolved before upgrading. This might take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at a time and carefully test everything before full deployment.

    BackupLion Bootable 10.7  Disk

Purchaseand download Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Macrunning Snow Leopard.

    1. Right click on “Mac OS X Lion”     installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
    2. Inside the Contents folder that     appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is     the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
    3. Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to     another folder like the Desktop.
    4. Launch Disk Utility and click the     burn button.
    5. Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come out toasty hot.

With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, and install10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. You caneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion boot discimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a clean installon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.

I have Microsoft office 2008 for Mac but it is not working on Lion after the upgrade, a "You cannot open the application Microsoft Excel  because Power PC applications are not longer supported" message appears every time I tried to log on to the application  , any ideas of how can I fix this issue?

Reinstall Office for Mac 2008, or you actually have Office for Mac 2004.

Do you have the latest version? There has been several updates for 2008 in the past couple of years. Word and Excel 2008 are working OK for me; haven't tried PowerPoint yet.

Office 2008 should work fine on Lion - does on my machines.

As previously pointed out you might need updates 0there hve been some recently.

One important caveat the Office 2008 Installer is a PPC app and won't run on Lion. So re-installing on Lion is not an option. It must be installed on SL first.

You'll have to wait for MS to release an updated verion that supports these features, O2008 has been replaced by O2011 so that may not happen.

Apparently, the Office 2008 installer does not run under Lion, since it is a PowerPC program.  Does anyone know if Microsoft updates to Office 2008 will install on Lion?

Current versions of Office 2008 are 13.3 (supports Exchange 2003) and 14.1 (supports Exchange 2007/10), I have heard of no plans to update either version for Lion, you'd have to ask Microsoft about that.

Both versions have a PPC installer so will not install on Lion but should run if installed prior to the Lion upgrade.

To tell which one you have: If your copy of Entourage is labelled Entourage EWS you have 14.1, all other apps are identical in either version.

I had Office 2004 which doesn't work with Lion. My fix for the problem was to switch to Neo Office. Neo will utilize all Office documents.

Well it was working just fine.  I had 2008 installed on both my laptop and MacPro.  I decided to clean sweep the MacPro with a fresh lion install.  Now I cannot find my 2008 install disk anywhere.  (I think the Lion ate it!)  So my option was to upgrade to the 2011 version which nicely was a download from M$.

So that's now installed on both machines and seems to work well.

After the clean sweep you would not have been able to run Office 2008 anyway unless you were restoring from a Clone or Time Machine. The ONLY way 2008 works with Lion is if it was pre-installed on a previous version of OS X because the installer is PPC based. So in your case upgrading to 2011 sounds like it was your only option anyway.

Yup... I think had I been able to locate my 2008 disk I would have discovered that the hard way.  Anyway my company requires explicit use of M$ word and excel and even though Neo might have worked they would shoot me down on it.   Luckily they paid for the upgrade.
