I've ran across the same issue on a 2010 MacBook Pro 17" i7 as well as a Mac Mini 2009. The MacBook Pro is running Lion as of this morning and the Mac Mini is still on Snow Leopard. Neither system is able to install any Software Updates as of today. I've never run across this problem in the past. I don't really feel comfortable upgrading the Mini to Lion while this occurs; hopefully it's just a bug Apple will fix soon.

I thought I'd updated to 10.4 prior to installing Lion update. but then software update suggested I needed to do it again? This failed twice then worked correctly on 3rd attempt.

Now my problem is that iTunes crashes when I try to sync my photos to my iPhone - it was OK with my iPad - go figure???

Have now discovered that iTunes only crashes when attempting to sync one particular folder of photos??

There are over 1700 in there! - maybe this is the problem.
