Can't mount my Buffalo Tech Terastation NAS drive.

Just upgraded to Lion and now I can't mount one of my three Buffalo Technology NAS drives, a Terastation 1TB drive that's pretty old. Neither Apple nor Buffalo Tech can help me.

I can connect to the drive via my browser and the IP address of the drive, but can't mount the drive on the desk top to access the files.

Any know how to solve this problem?

Thanks.

I work for a Web Design company and we have a Terastation and I was able to get my lion install to work by doing the following:

To turn on “DHCAST128″ support please do the following:

1) Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and do:
sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1

Now restart your computer.

2) From Finder, select an AFP server, or use “Connect To…”. This will cause the AFP Client to create the full preferences file

3) Launch Terminal again and do:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array “Cleartxt Passwrd” “MS2.0″ “2-Way Randnum exchange”
sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences

Now restart your computer.

Note: To add a “DHCAST128″ to the disable list, use
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array-add “DHCAST128″

I have the same problem with my Conceptronic CH3HNAS and have found a free and easy solution.

Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.

I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.

I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.

Hope it helps you.

Steven - are you now able to start iTunes pointing to an iTunes library on your NAS?

Cause I have a buffalo MAS that. I ca access perfectly via the finder, but when I try to start iTunes with Option+Click, and point to the iTunes library I have on my NAS, it can't access the file - it is grayed out.

My NAS has the latest firmware, and I applied "alexanders" fix as well. I think iTunes is a different kettle if fish!

Thanks....

No, iTunes doesn't even see my Terastation in Preferences. But I have two other Buffalo NAS LinkStations that iTunes can access with no problem. I just wanted to be able to back up this old Terastation to one of the newer drives, but when I try to copy a file I don't see anything happening. So I don't know how to copy from MuCommander to the Finder. I've had so many problems with my NAS drives that I'm now in the market for a Firewire drive to connect directly to my Mac.

Ok so after having the similar access problem to my 3 year old Buffalo Link Station thru the Lion Finder, I just resolved to using my usual FTP Program (Speed Download) to access it via FTP on it's local fixed IP Address.

Everything works like a charm 🙂

Yes, it's a quick fix so work does not stop but would love to have it accessible thru a finder window anyday like before via SMB services.

I'm gonna experiment with another FTP software I have called Transmit because I belive it allows you to make a desktop shortcut to access servers and that might make it quicker than launching Speed Download.

Will post an update about how that goes.

Kunal.
