Xcode not working with Lion

It would have been nice to know before installing Lion that XCode will not work.

I did not see ANY warnings etc about this if I had I would not have installed Lion until XCode was fully updated.

It needed to be in BIG letters making sure people knew this before installing Lion.

Can I uninstall Lion and have it go back to Snow or create a small partition with Snow and Xcode on it?

HELP!!!!

Thanks

Just like every program and app, Xcode needs to change their settings so its compatiable with Lion, most programs did this before the relase of Lion, Apple told all publishers to do this if they plan on having there app useable for Lion. Apple does not control what companies update what. In order to change back to snow lepord you will have to use the start up disc you got when you purchased Snow Lepoard and then when Xcode releases an update so it is compatible with Lion you can download it again for free in the Mac App Store under "Purchesed".

I have just tried that myself. Spent 2 hours trying to get the app store to actually start downloading xcode then when it finally downloaded and installed I still get the message stating that I need to get a copy of xcode that is compatible with Lion.

Looking at the comments on the app page it appears this is not an isolated incident.

My XCode install got seriously messed up during the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1. It appeared to go through the upgrade process but Xcode kept crashing afterwards.

Had to do it the hard way. Completely uninstalled Xcode and all traces of it, used pkgutil to "forget" all Xcode related packages, removed everything from /Developer, all traces from my home directory, re-downloaded 4.1 and installed it. Works ok now, so far.

This is one ugly upgrade process.

The app store doesn't download Xcode, it downloads "Install Xcode" (similar to the way we upgraded to Lion). Since I had previously installed Xcode from the app store, I had multiple copies of this file on my computer. I deleted my old Xcode and reinstalled from the app store being sure to select the "Install Xcode" with version 4.1 (right click and get info to verify).

I think what the installer does is just updates the tools, but not Xcode (IDE) itself.

All I did was download from appstore, and click on installer and it installed.

Previously I had Xcode 4 installed in /Developer and Xcode 3.2.6 in a different directory.

Both seem to be working fine.

Its weird - the upgrade experience for people is pretty varied - both for Lion and new Xcode.

Strangely the bug I find in Xcode after upgrading is that sometime when I'm working on an iOS project, if I take a snapshot, Xcode changes the project to a Mac OS project and I can't build or run it until I restart Xcode. Trying to change the scheme doesn't work as it doesnt let me change it back to iPhone. Restarting Xcode fixes it.
