Installed Lion, Mail is not working

I restarted the machine after installing the upgrade (MacBook Pro) but still no mail of any kind. I've seen a few similar questions on other forums but no answers yet.

Would anyone here be able to offer any ideas? Thanks all.

It appears I am on the same boat, even thou Mail starts on my Mac.

Mail will not connect to any of the configured servers to get new email.

Fourthermore the application hangs on quit.

Needless to say, all the email accounts I use worked before upgrading to Lion.

This is pretty bad for a new os, a essential app not working.

Pfffff...

Just a few minutes ago I got mine to work. I found I had moved my Mail application into a subfolder under Utilities (I like a tidy app folder) and the mail icon in the dock was linked to the old mail program. I opened my application folder, removed the old icon and clicked the new one and Mail opened.

Try this, I hope it works for you.

The new version adds my MobileMe accounts into 1 mail window. very nifty.

I had the same issues,no mail was appearing in my folders.

Upon checking ALL messages were going into the spam folder. This was because I needed to update the SpamSieve plugin as it didn't initially launch when the new mail application was opened. So, if you use SpamSieve ensure you close mail down, go to applications and open SpamSieve - it will then ask you to install a new plug in. Relaunch mail and everything is back to normal !

Having a similar problem, after upgrading to osx lion, opened mail, it's now stuck on trying to restore windows, but just stays dead and the application is non responsive, but doesn't quit, so i have to force quit, which once re-opening the program asks do i want to restore windows etc. went to system settings, email etc, but no change 😟 hovering over the nav bar just shows bouncy ball...

After the upgrade to Lion and started mail the first time it told me that my mail folders are corrupt and that it will be fixed on next run.

Now apple mail always stucks on trying to restore windows. Even if i choose in the beginning not to restore windows the mail app doesn't open at all.

Right clicking on the mail icon in the Dock just says that the application is not responding.

😟 I have the feeling that apple didn't tested the new mail app properly within all the rush to release lion.....

Note: I do also have MS Outlook installed. What about you guys?

Similar problem as JKR1. Deleted all accounts and even deleted my old Gmail account in the library but still nothing. It started when the upgrade mail account routine crashed in the middle and from then on, Mail would not launch. Went to one of the Genius bars in my city and was told that this was a known issue but the fix has not been published yet. It may have to do with the fact that my account is an IMAP account. I was told to call support who would walk me through the fix. Doing this tomorrow AM so we'll see if this is really the case. Everything else in Lion works and the upgrade went without a hitch.

I did the Lion upgrade last night. Now I can't open Viewer Window in mail, nor can I see incoming mail. I can't open other windows either, aside from Activity (that is constantly trying to connect) and Connection Status, to know that my primary POP email account is broken. Preferences will not open. The Quit command will not work.

I tried the dock icon replacement, the Systems Preferences open/close, rebooting, shutting down and waiting for things to cool off, etc.

I'm on a 5-year-old 20" iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and just found out that this model suffers from video chip overheating. Would video and Mail behavior problems be related?
