Why does Safari hang in OS X Lion?

Hi. A restart after installing Lion got Mail and Twitter going. Not Safari though: it starts to load pages then hangs. I've had to switch to Firefox. Any ideas?
thanks,

Aidan

mosquito, I'm running the latest version of Snow Leopard and have the same problem. So I don't think it has anything to do with the OS. It's a Safari problem. It started with me when I upgraded from 5.0.x to 5.1. I've since upgraded to 5.1.1 and still have the problem. I've tried everything including changing out Flash and deleting storage in Flash, but nothing helps. Firefox runs perfectly using the same version of Flash, so I don't think it's a Flash problem.

Same problem here. I've found that bringing the Force-Quit window into focus un-sticks Safari (don't need to select anything and quit, just make that be the active window). Having the force-quit window displayed isn't sufficient; you need to switch to it for Safari to un-stick. One page I see this problem on very frequently is macsurfer.com, but when it happens, and what pages it happens on, seems to be pretty random. The best way I've been able to make this happen (although not all the time) is to put about a dozen pages in a bookmark folder, load all of them at once into tabs, and start scrolling the first page as it's loading.

I should note that I'm seeing these UI hangs in things besides Safari. Also seeing it in QuickTime Player (10.1) and Photoshop (CS5). Everything has been updated. And I'm seeing it on my MacPro as well as MacBookPro.

Very strange that in every case, opening the ForceQuit window un-hangs the UI -- but eventually it will hang again.

Safari 5.1.1 seems to be the worst browser I've ever run. It hangs for no reason, and returns to "normal" for no reason that I have been able to discover. I hope someone at Apple (cloud or no cloud) is listening. Sorry to add that Firefox and Chrome, just to cite those two, are consistenly responsive where Safari 5.1.1 is still trying to find itself.

Switching to Chrome makes me more productive than using the current version of Safari, but it's still less productive than using the previous version. And telling me that I should be happy with the second best solution is not good salesmanship on your part, assuming you are an Apple employee. Or are you just a self-appointed Apple representative?
