I don't see that this is Lion's fault. Creative shouldn't be using code that hasn't been native mac code for 6 years. It only worked under Leopard and Snow Leopard because of Rosetta, which is an emulator. Running drivers for a sophisticated sound card through an emulation layer is completely inefficient. Creative should have re-written their drivers years ago and they knew many, many months ago that Lion would not support Rosetta and therefore their PowerPC drivers.

Creative have let you down here, not Apple. 6 years of legacy support is quite enough, software has to move on to take advantage of the latest technologies, not hold itself back to support lazy companies. If you go to Creative's site you'll see they're still advertising the beta drivers for Snow Leopard! It's quite embarrassing for them to be so behind the state of the art.

I suggest you write to Creative and complain that the lack of forethought in failing to re-write drivers that were written for an architecture last used by macs in 2005.

I received this email, in response to my support request for the EMU 0404 USB with Lion:

Thank you for contacting us at E-MU Customer Support.

This is just to inform you that E-MU will continue to support the products that we are currently shipping based on the OS configuration that were available at the time of original shipment. E-MU will not be supporting new drivers for new OS releases from Apple or Microsoft.

I guess it's finally time to spring for an Apogee.

Sorry to revive this old thread but I just got my new Mavericks retina MBP. I saw some have trouble with it on 10.8 but I tried anyway on Mavericks.

So I installed it on Mavericks 10.9.4 and it works like a charm.

The playback works perfect. Volume control directly from volume button in the finder.

The recording also works great. Better in fact than before, I also tried 192kHz which was never available before on OSX and it seems to work without any trouble. I tested that with audacity.

(I did not try any MIDI, I have no midi stuff here)
