27" Thunderbolt Display on Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (late 2010) with two 27" Apple Cinema Displays, I would like to replace one of them with a new 27" Thunderbolt Display just because of the HD iSight camera. Is it possible to connect it to my current Mac Pro? I don't care about the Thunderbolt at all.

Mac Pro 2010, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

No. Unfrotunately I was in the same boat with a late 2010 MacBook Air. I went ahead and took the hit getting a 2011 MacBook Air and sold my previous one to a friend at a discount.

With a 2011 MacBook Pro (w/ Thunder bolt) you woudl be able to place the Thunderbolt display first in the chain and then the second cinema display on the end. The thunderbolt display will have all the expansion ports (firewire, usb, etc. available).

Note -- you may have issues though using Bootcamp with thunderbolt as currently there is no way to use the iMac 27" thunderbolt as a target monitor even with the late model MacBooks which have thunderbolt. I feel it's plausible they will address this with better thunderbold windows drivers however.

If you are interested on getting rid of one of your Cinema Displays I may take you on it just because of the Bootcamp issue which works fine with that one. Let me know.

While I maybe beating a dead horse! The Mac PRO TOWER is just a little different than a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro. The video is on a seperate video card. It maybe that video and thunderbolt stuff will have to be through that same type of config don't you think?

I am not wanting to use the Thunderbolt stuff, just the display so that I can take advantage of the new HD iSight Camera.

I just want to know if someone has connected a new Thunderbolt Display to a current late 2010 Mac Pro Tower to see if it works at ALL!

I don't believe so. I saw a Mac Pro Tower yesterday in the Apple store. In fact, that's the one I borrowed the monitor from to test on the macbook air. The specs of the tower show it has two minidisplay ports so it will only work with the cinema display unless there is a new exapnsion card and they come in Thunderbolt. In either case the same argument/combination is applicable.

You might remember this last year we had the same problem with mini display-port, The 06, 07, 08 Mac Pro's where not compatible with the 27-inch LED Cinema Display but then bare feats did a test with a 5870 on a 2008 Mac Pro and it worked and once everyone saw that it work users with 06, 07 08 Mac Pro's upgrading to 5770 or 5870 and using the 27-inch LED with late model mac's I think we just need to wait for 2011 Mac Pro TB GPU upgrade kit becomes available and then it might work
