How do I tell Lion to disable the LCD screen even when the lid is open?

Hello,

A known issue with MacBook Pro's is that the WiFi reception is poor when running in clamshell mode. A workaround for this issue when using an external monitor only has been to close the MacBook, wake it with a USB device and monitor attached, and then re-open the lid.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work in OS X Lion. That's because as soon as you open the lid, Lion re-detects all the displays and re-enables the LCD monitor. I'm sure in some circumstance, that's very helpful. But not in mine.

Does anybody know of a way to keep Lion from re-enabling the monitor whenever the lid is opened?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Yes, I think most of us do agree that we would like the option back, or some other solution that achieves the same effect.

What seems to be not agreed upon is that there are actual problems for which the original solution was required. Several of us are attempting to generate data to demonstrate to Apple that a solution is a need rather than a want.

Here's the feedback I left:

PLEASE add a "control" or "switch" so when a user has an external monitor connected/turned on/active, it will allow the user to leave the MBP's display OPEN but TURNED OFF (not just turning down the display light, but OFF, [forgot this part: so it is not using additional GPU resources], so it can help heat escape, so is not losing wireless sensitivity, so it can easily be turned back on when the user does want to use it, and maybe even so that keyboard and trackpad are still functional, if that's possible).

I'm sure that someday I'll be forced to "upgrade" to Lion, but until that time, I sincerely hope that you come out with at least one more revision of Snow Leopard, and that it includes this feature.

Thank you!
