One email account stops working in Lion, despite same functioning settings on iPad and iPhone

Hi,

here's to hoping someone out there can help.

Since the Lion install, one email account in Mail does not work. I tried deleting and re-installing the account and (with the help of tech support) toggling SSL settings and ports, but it still would not work. Interestingly, the account still works on iPad and iPhone. But the same settings do not work on the desktop Mail. Sending email to the account is received on mobile devices sans problem.

I'm afraid at this point to sync the macbook with iPad and iPhone for fear the devices will automatically stop receiving mail as well. What gives?

Grateful for any tips!

Cheers,

Alicia

Have the same problem. Have POP accounts that were working perfectly before I loaded OS X Lion and now with the new software none of them work. Pretty poor in my view and anyone has any ideas to get round this would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to miss Windows (even they wouldn't have got this so badly wrong).

Has anyone spoken to Apple and had comment from them - really surprised they have released an application with such a flaw - now have no way other than iPhone to get email which for a small business is ridiculous! Very poor by Apple - the halo seems to be fast slipping!

Also now have a problem with Time Capsule? Is anyone else experiencing this - getting hung on Calculating the backup? This is becoming incredidly annoying and Apple doesn't even have a customer support desk to raise it with - have trawled through site and can find nothing! Any help appreciated and if someone has an email address or a URL that I can use to make a complaint it would be greatly apprciated?

Same problem here: All the POP accounts stopped working. Actually stoped receiving email, but can send.

Seems that Mail cannot connect to the incoming server (POP). During the recreation of the accoun I get a "nonsecure password transmission warning" and the the account never connects.

I tried all the solutions aroun this discrusions, but nothing get them to work.

If someone comes with a solution, including Apple, will be appreciated.

By the way, same kind of fault is happenning whit FaceTime: cannot connect to the Apple server after updating to Lion.

Regards,

Alfa

here is what I did to resolve the problem. In Mail/preferences/accounts/account information/ and at the bottom of the box there is a toggle arrow up and down to edit the outgoing mail server, check the box "use only this server" and hit this toggle button and select "edit SMTP Server List" at the very bottom of the email names. Be sure to select OK each time to get the passwords to hold! Some changes won't hold unless you click OK before you move on.

Select Advanced tab. Correct and/or add usernames and passwords as needed for each email account. It seems the passwords are not holding.

To test: Window/activity (a little windows will pop up showing activity bars) and then "get mail" button. This should show any problems

another test: window/connection doctor

This will fix both pop and imap. so far it worked on yahoo, mobile me, gmail, hotmail, and others. Of course, you will need to know the incoming and outgoing mail server info, user name, and passwords.

Too bad we have to go though hoops to use an email program that used to work well.

Sorry this posted twice--Apple Support crashed on me with a message about editing the posts.

This is easy method of setting up your email accounts but may not allow enough detail to make the mail accounts function properly in Mail 5.0:

system preferences/internet and wireless/mail, contacts, calendars/ add account
