No "Launchpad" Application

I´ve have upgraded from the latest OS X Snow Leopard Version with all updates to OS X Lion.

After the update everything seems to work great exept the launchpad application.

When I start the launchpad application from the dock instead of the apple lauchpad a Microsoft launchpad (Windows Homeserver 2011) starts.

I think that have to do with that i had installed the launchpad app from microsoft under Snow Leopard.

Now I have deleted the MS launchpad App with the APP ZAPPER...but now how will I get the right Launchpad app?!

The Lion Launchpad app should be in your Applications folder. You can drag it to the Dock.

I had the same problem. I have found this post in Haiteq website. I don't know whether this will fix this issue or not. But worth trying. This will refresh launchpad and restart doc.

Here is the link.

Here is the Post.

As I have used the OS X Lion beta, I have noticed that there is a slight issue in the LaunchPad. When you install or remove an application without using the App Store, the LaunchPad may take a long time to update accordingly. This is a bug that I hope Apple will eventually fix. Until then, however, we are left with workarounds.

To force the LaunchPad to refresh its database, run the following command:

sudo rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db

This will delete the database that is used to populate the LaunchPad. To apply the change and make the LaunchPad create a new database, run this command:

sudo killall Dock

The Dock will restart, along with Mission Control and the LaunchPad. The grid of icons should be refreshed, and the changes you have made to the applications should be visible.

Update: As some of the commenters over at TUAW have noted, doing this will remove any custom locations or folders you may have set up for your applications.

This is how I have fixed the issue. Hopefully this will help everybody.

Follow the following steps.

1. Go to Applications folder and right click on the Microsoft Lanunchpad app and press duplicate.

2. On the duplicate app right click and press getinfo. Now change name to MSLanouchpad. If you want open MSLaunchpadapp. Now MSLaunchpad app will appear on the dock and right click on the app & change options to openatlogin.

3. Now move Launchpad app to trash.

4. If you have dowloaded install Mac OSX Lion file then right click and press show package contents. If you don't have the package download from app store and it will showup in applications directory.

5. go to contents/SharedSupport directory and you will see installESD.dmg. Double click on the file.

6. now Mac OS X Install ESD Drive will be mounted.

7. now go to packages directory and double click on Essentials.pkg and install the package.

8. After installation Launchpad will appear in the applications.

9. Now click on application folder on the dock and drag Launchpad app on to Dock. Now Launchpad will appear on the dock.

10. Now both WHS 2011 Launchpad and Launchpad can co exist in the system.

I just figured this out for me. I don't have any conflict with MS Launchpad, but what I did was on the first day I deleted the icon for Mac Launchpad and couldn't find it again. I searched for it, the search brought it up. I moved it from search to my desktop and when it was there, I dropped it back onto my dock which has it basically back where it was. I might not be the best way to do it, but it's back. Plus you can make a corner open launchpad, and thus don't really need the app button anyway.
