Emagic a26 and Lion

Well, Lion is here and it doesn't support Rosetta - so my dear midi/audio interface doesn't work anymore.

The interface gave me midi I/O + 6 audio IN and 2 Audio out, communicating with my Mac/Logic Studio through USB.

Any idea for a replacement?

thanks

So many great products out there now. I use an Edirol FA-101 (which I haven't yet tested with Lion as I just upgraded yesterday) which gives 10 inputs, plus midi and tons of features, and the product I just love, the Apogee One, which only gives one input but is compatible with Lion (zero configuration- it simply worked after the upgrade). It gives an amazing sound, has a built in mike, but can also plug in guitars or external mikes. If you really need to record more than one track at a time, consider the Duet (supposed to be compatible with Lion in August) which allows two simultaneous recordings. If you still need more there are tons of products- obviously, just check for Lion compatibility!

The items in my /Library/StartupItems/EmagicA26A62mFirmwareLoader directory are either plain text files or Universal binaries. The source for these is /Volumes/Logic Studio/Installer/Packages/A26A62Driver.pkg on the installation DVD for Logic Studio 1.0. The EmagicA26A62mFirmwareLoader directory needs to be extracted using Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com) as the standard installation options don’t work on OS X Lion.

Without the universal firmware loader, there’s a way to save you some of the trouble. You simply need to avoid that the Emagic 6|2m loses power when you unplug it or shut down your Mac. This can be done by connecting it to a powered USB hub or using a power adapter.

To be safe, use a powered USB hub. In case of the power adapter, check the specifications on the bottom of your Emagic 6|2m. The information on mine says 5V 500mA DC and the plug’s outer ring needs to be + (plus).

This is total overkill, but it works:

If you happen to have a Windows virtual machine on your Mac, you can connect your a26 to the virtual machine, install the Windows drivers, and let the VM load the firmware. When you shut down the VM, the firmware remains loaded on the a26, and is available to OSX.

It's cheaper than buying a new interface, and it's fun to watch the confused looks on your friends' faces when they see how much trouble you're willing to go through to save $150.

I also need to find me a emagic 2|6 driver solution for OS X Lion and tried to follow your advice.

I run parallels windows 7 but failed to find a eMagic 2|6 driver for it.

Any suggestions? Any totally different routes to go?

I basically just want to digitalize some vinyls and record some live-sets without buying big new devices (e.g. usb turntables)..

Thank you for any help!

I'm reasonably certain that win7 will choke on the win32 (i.e. xp) drivers, which were the last ones released. If you happen to have a winxp virtual machine, you may have better luck with that (it's what I used).

Another option you might want to try is a Linux livecd - something like Ubuntu Studio (http://ubuntustudio.org/). You can use it as a live cd, meaning it won't make any changes to your mac. I believe kernel support for the a26 has existed for some time, and all the tools you should need for digitizing from analog should be there. Just make sure you have a USB stick or USB hard drive available, as I can't speak to Linux's ability to read/write MacOS formatted hard drives.
