TimeMachine requires AFP support on my network disc

After installing OS X Lion TimeMachine fails. I use a shared folder on a Synlogy NAS disc for my TimeMachine. This has been no problem under previous OS.

The Error message is: The Network Backup Disc has no AFP support which is reaquired.

did some more research and apparently there is a change to AFP so that clear text passwords are no longer valid in Lion. We need for our NAS makers to update their AFP implementation. Never thought that this would have been an issue. Oh well, QNAP's fix is supposed to ready in a couple of weeks.
