Can't turn on web sharing

I am having the same problem.

I have tried replacing the file /opt/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf with /opt/local/apache2/conf/original/httpd.conf but web server still won't start. Is this the correct file? I also check the permissions of httpd.conf and set ownership to system.

Any suggestions?

I have found the old file. Now to what directroy do I have to move the old httpd.conf?

Replace

/etc/apache2/httpd.conf

with

/etc/apache2/original/httpd.conf

You probably want to make a copy of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf somewhere else in case you need it later.

Make sure that you are actually moving files rather than creating an alias.

I have the same problem, exept when i click start, it says its not running, but the web service is running because i can access the sites through http://localhost/.

I've tried replacing the httpd.conf with the one in /original, and i've also tried renaming the httpd.conf.default, non of these things worked (both of these thing made the check box active, but when you turn it off, you can turn it back on)

I FIXED IT!!!

All I did was changed the "Computer Name:" field at the top of the sharing window!

I hope this fixes your issues too!

In my case a module reference was made that does not exist anymore in Lion.

Try comment the line in httpd.conf that says:

LoadModule fastcgi_module libexec/apache2/mod_fastcgi.so

Commenting this line requires a # at the beginning of the line.

Editing the file can be done with tools like TextWrangler or TextMate.
