Q: Wifi Constantly Dropping in Lion

Since upgrading my Fall 2009 21.5" iMac to Lion my wifi connection will drop out about every minute and the I have to turn Wifi off and then back on to get it to connect again. Is there any known way to fix this? Any suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks

Suitess,  I saw you tried many fixes in this thread, used phone support and so on.  Have you tried the solution that sblahauvietz posted some 2 weeks ago ?  His solution has been confirmed helped 4 people who have had the problem for a while (me being one of them), and makes technical sense.  I suggest you give it a try, it will only take you 2 minutes:

    1. Close all applications
    2. Go to System Preferences/Network
    3. Click on "Wifi" then "Advanced"
    4. Delete all wifi networks, apply changes and close
    5. Go to Utilities/Keychain Access
    6. On left click on "Login" and "All items"
    7. Remove any files that relate to your network and router
    8. Click on "System" and remove all files/Certificates related to your network and router
    9. Close Keychain Access
    10. From Finder menu, Click "Go" then "Computer" then "Macintosh HD" then "Library" then "Preferences" then "System Configuration"
    11. Drag all of the files and folders in this location to your desktop.  Delete them from their original location.  It's important that you delete them, not just copy them.
    12. Restart your mac
    13. Validate that the wifi connects and you are online
    14. Move the old system config files to the trash  (just needed them in case the fix didn't work and you wanted to keep your preferences)
    15. Just for additional safety, download and re-install the latest 10.7.2 update.

After struggling for several months, this 2 minute fix did it, and I have had a stable WiFi for almost 2 weeks now (vs 5 to 10 minutes before).

    Good luck !

    delventhalz, thanks for your post.

A lot of people in this discussion siding with the Genius Bar seem to gloss over the fact that quite a few of us posting have brand new machines and had these problems the first time we ran them.  So the "futzing with settings" explanation doesn't really make sense.  While there are some cases of people having the issues with Snow Leopard in the discussion, most of us did not have these issues until running a machine with Lion.  My MacBook with Snow Leopard sitting beside me works fine on the exact same network.

As far as "futzing with settings", as with most people here I only did that to get things working, and was one of the lucky ones who has had success.  But again, it was a brand new machine and I first noticed the wifi issues as soon as I started to set it up.
