Also I had the same problem as most in this tread, with my macbook 2009 dropping wifi connection randomly. My basestation is an Airport Extreme. Tried every tips I found without luck.

Finally I changed the "Radio Mode" under Wireless options to "802.11a - 802.11b/g" thus disabling n-mode.

After this the wifi connection has been rock stable. This means that the theoretical throughput of my wifi network has decreased but at least until a better solution is available I can live with this..

    Hope this helps someone else..

Same!   i hope Apple fixes this, i really don't want to have to get into workarounds.  My lion has been running smoothly on my imac purchased nov 2011 until this latest upgrade!

Absolutely same situation as ndelc spoke about earlier in this thread, but just since the upgrade last weekend.

Please note, that as you say, n-mode is faster.  This is because it has a signal width of up to 4 channels, instead of the single channel that b/g uses.  So, if you are on channel 6, for example, with n-mode, other users of channel 6, 7, 8 and 9 can create interferring traffic.   Did you also try moving to a different, fixed channel before switching to b/g?   Do you know if you are on 802.11a, or down on 2.4ghz at 802.11b/g?  That would be good to know.

Only one point, quite a few of us having these problems are/were having the problems with brand new machines.  I bought a brand new 27" iMac in late December, and immediately started having the issues.   My router and modem are not old either.   It was replaced with a new unit when I upgraded my internet package late last year.   I know there are others in this thread in the same vote.   The Windows 7 machine, my 2009 MacBook running Snow Leopard, my iPhone, and my Apple TV2 all connect to the network fine and have never had any dropping issues.

No, you are right, there are definitely a lot of newer set ups that are being affected. I was just commenting that it seems to be more older set ups, but that's just anecdotal, I really have no idea. WiFi implementation in Lion seems to be very very buggy in general, affecting a wide variety of set ups, which is generally the hallmark of new technology. I would assume something about WiFi in Lion is very very new, and hopefully Apple had a good reason for using it, because it has been a mess.

I am guessing that the recent addition of AirPlay support, and perhaps new features that we can't "use" yet, that they are spending more "code time" looking at the network state and used/available bandwidth to decide how to buffer data to make the AirPlay seemless.  I'm thinking that in doing that, they're considering a "WiFi" communications failure the same as a "cut wire" on ethernet, under some circumstances, and the fact is, many places now, the 2.4ghz spectrum is saturated with wireless traffic from bluetook, WiFi, cordless phones, Video extenders, and all kinds of stuff that is making it more and more likely that WiFi will continuously be retraining the signal.

I did try to move between fixed channels before disabling n-mode, in my case this did not help.

I'm not sure about how to now what mode is in use, but throughput from my file server over wlan to my macbook is now around 3Mb/s.

Hi I have same issue only had imac for a month, it was fine to start with then.. it began being a pain.

But I know straight away that the hardware is fine cause when I run windows 7 on bootcamp the connection is perfect and stays that way!! come on apple £1400 is a lot of money to be having this basic issue.

Every other device in the house is sound from iphones & blackberry to blu ray & xbox360

I've been living with this problem for months now, ever since I upgraded to Lion.

I wish it was as simple for me to re-log onto my WiFi Router, nothing short of a computer restart will restore my Internet connection.

I have a WinXP desktop (hardwired into the router, a WinXP laptop (WiFi) and 2 iPhones and an iPad all connected to the router via WiFi. None of these devices have a problem.

Only my Mac Pro (hardwired) and my MacBook (WiFi) loses connection to the Internet at least once each day. Both machines can see the router (their IP addresses are valid) but not the WAN (Internet). The only way to regain access to the Internet is via a Shutdown and Restart.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I just heard from Apple Support that Apple knows of this problem and is working on a fix that will come out in the next update. I only heard that after several calls to Apple Support. Something about Lion and iMacs. Right now I have a wireless router that still works for my iPad and wireless printer but I have an ethernet cable between my iMac and the router.

As I mentioned in my post yesterday - my iMac running on Lion had no issues with wi fi dropping until the latest update last weekend.

A friend's suggestion has solved this problem for me, so I'll pass it on here.  Re-download lion 10.7.3 (client combo) from the app store and re-install.

To do this go to app store, choose lion o/s, support, downloads, lion 10.7.3 client combo.

Hope this works for others too!

I have no trouble with my two iMacs. But the MacBook Pro is an absolute nightmare. I have to restart to get connection and then it's temporary. I'm living with ethernet connection until Apple find a fix.

I've tested this method, with my iMac 27" : to wake up only with the power button.

    It 'repaired' the connexion.

I really wonder what is the problem, since with the 10.7.2 version, I had really no problem.

This ***** from Apple, really !

They know the hardware (unlike Microsoft PCs) and the OS, why can't they fix it ?

I really hope in the next update it will be fixed forever

THE only solution That Worked for this issue is going back to Snow Leopard becouse, the wi-fi is stable under 10.6.8. These wi-fi issues in Lion are being coused becouse Lion has State of the art wi-fi firmware. My advice downgrade to 10.6.8 and your issue is fixed until Apple fixes Lion, indeed my iPhone 4 and iPad don,t have wi-fi problems at all.

I somewhat doubt that because of the new Mac OS X version Wi-Fi firmware changes… Probably firmware is the same, drivers could be different. In some other discussion one user shared his solution — replacing Lion Wi-Fi driver with the Snow Leopard driver, and problem was solved.

Apparently, people are having different symptons (or are interpreting them differently). I have the problem of Lion v10.7.3 dropping the connection to the DNS, not WiFi or hardwired connection to the router.

Mac Pro (hardwired) and MacBook (WiFi) still have LAN access, but not Internet access. All the rest of my devices (2 iPhones, an iPad, 2 Windows machines, Apple TV, a Roku, my Blue Ray Player and 2 IP cameras do not have any  problems).

Not sure of the cause, but Snow Leopard had no problems ... only Lion (any Rev) exhibits Internet connectivty loss.

Have asked Apple, again, for some insight or a posting and more importantly, a fix.
