Dec 3, 2011 6:18 AM in response to jimpalby Cptmrgn02,For me it was a keychain issue with my wifi. I haven't been able to read every post in this thread, so apologies if this has already been suggested. Go to utilities and then Keychain Access and delete the keychain password for your wifi. It should work after that. I had to do it for all of the wifi networks I regularly use.

Dec 3, 2011 6:27 AM in response to Cptmrgn02by torndownunit,Things have been ok here for a couple of days now. I tried a whole bunch of tips that I am not not sure which one, or which combination of them did something. One tip I did was to leave Network Utility running an unlimited Ping to my router address. I saw the tip on another forum. I have had about 80% uptime over the last 2 days since doing that. It was dropping as much as every couple of minutes when I originally posted.

Dec 3, 2011 6:29 AM in response to jimpalby torndownunit,RE the Time Machine tip on the previous page:
In my case, I haven't even got Time Machine setup yet. I just got the new computer, and the wireless issue has been such a focus I haven't even got everything setup yet.

Dec 5, 2011 3:36 AM in response to lhaleby Joe90James,Was SO annoying for me!
HOWEVER, I found a very quick fix an now it's perfect again
Go into System Preferences, then Network, then click on your Wi-Fi Connection in the left-hand panel.
Click on Advanced (on the right), then click on the DNS tab.
In the right hand box, (search domain) click on the plus symbol and add "8.8.8.8" then click OK.
Worked for me anyway!

It's the latest Snow Leopard driver for the Atheros Wi-Fi chipset published by Apple, so I don't necessarily agree with the engine comparison. It's an older driver, yes, but it's not that old.
Imagine the following scenario:
Snow Leopard driver:
connect_to_network(SSID, info, security_key)
Lion driver:
connect_to_network(SSID, security_structure)
Lion would be passing additional security information the Snow Leopard driver would simply never use, causing possible issues.

For my iMac, after trying literally everything else on this thread, this is the fix that finally worked for me, too. Don't understand why, but it "just works."
My wife has a MacBook, also running Lion, also Intel Core 2 Duo, etc., and it has never had this problem on the same network.

Dec 7, 2011 12:31 AM in response to lhaleby yanikins,Bleh. I've been on the phone to Apple Care since Lion Dropped. Four months or so later, they admit it's a roblem with their products and their answer is to wait until they fix it. My Answer is to refer them to The Department of Fair Trading.
My advice? Buy a Windows PC. Atleast Microsoft gradually fix their incompetent coding and you dont overpay for hardware.

Dec 7, 2011 1:33 AM in response to yanikinsby ferkijel,I have tried every single piece of advice on this thread and just about every thread I found in this and other communities. Some made the problem worse, some didn't help at all. During my first discussion on the phone with Apple Care they suggested some lame fixes (like adding 8.8.8.8 to the DNS list, , and changing my DHCP-assigned IP to a manually fixed one). Needless to say nothing helped. I have another appointment on the phone with them tomorrow at 11AM. I expect a second-tier lame reply.
@ Yanikins: what do you mean "they admit it's a problem" ? When and how did they admit it's a known issue ?

Dec 7, 2011 3:39 AM in response to ferkijelby yanikins,I have had two senior case managers at apple care tell me that there is a problem with how lion communicates with certain wifi routers. In their words, they know the problem exists, but because of the irregularity of the dropouts and the wide range of hardware it affecting, they are having a hard time pinning down what exactly is wrong. I was told this once, waited for about a month and had a really bad few days of my computer actually locking up, so they replaced my wifi card. When this didnt fix the problem, I called Apple care again and the senior case manager stated that he was unaware of why the wifi card was replaced when they are aware that its a software problem.
That being said, Ive built and troubleshooted alot of PC's and it doesnt feel purely software. If it was, more people would be having this problem. The two routers I have used, one is a popular netgear model and the other is the stock modem ditributed by Australias largest ISP. More people would be reporting this problem if it was simply software.

Dec 7, 2011 3:42 AM in response to ferkijelby yanikins,Hence refering them to the Department of Fair Trading. I've now had my computer for about 6 months and it hasnt worked correctly for about 5. At the worst point, I was having drop outs every 3-5 minutes and having to hard reset my computer. They offered me a free External HDD for my troubles and a new router. I asked the guy what exactly i would do with 2 external HDD's and 3 routers. Absolutely ridiculous.
Just to reiterate, I will NEVER buy another Apple product.

Dec 7, 2011 5:23 AM in response to yanikinsby torndownunit,Well things have been up and running smoothly for me for about 3 days now. The problem is, I have tried so many fixes that I don't know which one (or combination) finally seems to have stuck.
I have a feeling it was a combination of this tip: http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/06/lion-wi-fi-problems-solution-mac/ and clearing out anything related to my wifi from the keychain. Those were the last 2 fixes I did, and things seemed to be running ok since then.
Every other thing I tried from adding the Google DNS, to the keep alive scripts only seemed to last temporarily. The only other suggestion I followed that I believe is still in effect was changing my router channel. I changed it to 11 at one point, and I don't think I changed it back. But, I was still having some drops with just that change so I think it was the other 2. Or again, it could be a combination.
Like everyone else in the thread, I spent hours on the problem though. I am still not confident in the least that it has totally dissapeared either.
