mysql missing?

So here's a question: I've got a 10.6.8 server install that has a Java app using the builtin MySQL install.

If I upgrade to 10.7 server what happens to the MySQL databases and is the old MySQL install removed?

It would be a dreadful thing to lose the data and functionality of the third party app or worse still to have to go through a process of installing the MacPorts version of MySQL on a 10.7 server. Been there, done that, hated it.

I think 10.7 will move them to postgresql but you i know you can also get the latest version of mysql and run it with lion if you want

MySQL and the server admin tools gone from Lion Server? Is this a joke? Is Apple really serious about servers?

apparently not. They hosed a ton of stuff on this one.

Migration? No. I lost Open Directory, Calendar Server, Addressbook Server, MySQL and all my custom websites. They put zero forethought into this Server upgrade. I guess that's what we get for upgrading to a $50 product from a $500 product.

Upgrading from 10.6.8 will not remove MySQL.

I am running a couple of web sites with php and mysql, as well as wordpress.

I understand that 10.7 still comes with mysql but is no longer support and has no GUI or will I have to install it?

Shall I continue to run MySQL or should I upgrade those websites to postgresql?

To clarify this point: 10.7 does NOT install MySQL. If Snow Leopard Server is upgraded or migrated to Lion server, the MySQL binaries and databases will be preserved or copied, respectively. Snow Leopard Server provides a version of MySQL from the long-unsupported 5.0.x tree, so downloading version 5.1.x or 5.5.x directly from the vendor (at the URL listed in spearssoftware's post) is recommended.

There isn't any need to migrate from MySQL to PostgreSQL if the former is working for you. For those interested, check out some of the documentation provided by PostgreSQL:

MySQL is gone from the installation routine - yes. Just go to the development website and download the 5.5.13 MySQL .dmg installer and do it that way. You will now have the latest MySQL (which apple never provided) and you can also install the MySQL preferences pane and run MySQL from System preferences.

I too, was panic stricken when I saw MySQL gone from the DP's, but I did some research, iinstalled MySQL myself and now I am back in business.

I have installed mysql from developers site, but cannot update a root password once installed. (fresh install)

Also, do a discussion search for me or the topic MySQL missing? ( I think that was the original post). I gave a URL for MySQL Workbench which is an underated MySQL manager that will allow you to do exactly what you need.

In my opinion the $500 product was junk too. Buggy and unfinished. The $50 product is the same...but with fewer features. It went from bad to worse...

I am with Brian... Although I would go back to the 10.5 server was the buggiest monster to be released into the IT Admin's world. Working with iCal server is about as pleasurable as touching a hot soldering iron to the inside of my arm... problem is I know the soldering iron will burn me... I never know what will happen with the mystery iCal server.

Apple has been exiting the Enterprise market for years now. The only foothold they have in an enterprise environment is that people want to use the appliances so they need to be able to be integrated into a real word business situation by IT.

The writing has been on the wall for awhile. Don't be left out in the cold... start looking at alternatives now. Unless you only want to sit around and watch videos and listen to music... Apple will be awesome for that.

I have supported Apple products for 19 years. It's sad from my perspective.

Can someone confirm this, if true it would make a big difference.
