It's alway irritating that System Information reports that you have a MacThing 12,2, but they tell you something applies to a MacThing (Late 2008). Why the double talk? And what stretch of time constitutes "late" 2008 anyway? What if I bought it on August 28 and it was delivered on September 5. Would that be mid or late? I have no clue.
Enough with the justified rant. I don't know about this early, late, or mid year number stuff, and neither does my iMac, for that matter. What the iMac tells me is that it is an iMac 7,1.
Apple never disclosed that there are Macs that came with wifi but don't support Airdrop. Why would anyone think that was the case? Since Airdrop does not appear on the Finder sidebar, I presume that my iMac 7,1 doesn't match whatever that calendard drivel means.
if you open finder preferences, click on sidebar, and make sure airdrop is checked. if you are able to run lion, you should be able to run everything in it.
If it's not listed (and checked to show) under Favorites in your Sidebar of any finder window, then you don't have it. FWIW, it will only work if you have a second machine running Lion which supports it (or a friend drops by with one or you are in an office environment with other Macs that support it).

Not true as shown by the above post listing which ones are compatible with AirDrop.

why were older macs left out of the airdrop feature? are there more lion features incompatible too?
I think because their wireless cards don't have the supporting chipset.
I'm not aware of any other similar limitations.

Thanks to Jack, I can stop searching for an answer on why AirDrop doesn't show up on my MacMini. Sad but true, it's older than mid 2010 :-(
Did you actually read his post before answering it Ian? His complaint was that the information when you look at System Info does not match what is in the link you posted, that had previously been posted.

They may not have done it in a way that matched the System Info, but it was disclosed.
