When I go to system preferences expose and spaces is not there for me as an option. What can I do to restore it?

I have tried to fix permissions and restart and that did not help it show back up and I have also deleted the system preferences cache and still nothing. What can I do?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Typically scrolling left and right is done by using either three or four fingers.

The best way to get started using Mission Control is first by checking your Trackpad Settings.

System Preferences > Trackpad > More Gestures (tab)

Look here to see if you have it set to three or four fingers.

Next launch Mission Control. You can do this by either using the options you just set-up for your Trackpad, clicking on the Mission Control icon in the dock, or by double clicking on Mission Control in the Applications Folder which can be found in Finder > Applications.

Hope this helps.

No it it not very intuitive. I have spent an hour trying to figure out where spaces have gone.

Thank you for the hint about the plus sign in the upper right corner. Who would have thought of that? Not me.

But it actually works with the old CTRL+1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on. Now we just have to count the dashboard as space number one

Apple, please: You should have explained this much better!

Let me know if anyone else has the same issue but when I use my Hot Corner for "Application Windows" in Mission Control I would assume it would show all the applications I have open in that space like it did in 10.6. Now all it does is zoom out and center the window, in a similar style but it will only do the app I am clicked into at any one time.

I know mission control it shows all those windows at once but I like seeing all my apps from one space without opening Mission Control, if you know what I mean.

I also miss the grid layout of spaces. In fact, I'm considering downgrading back to Snow Leopard just to get it back. I used to use command+arrow keys to move around in my grid of spaces. I used to use a hot corner to initiate spaces, then another hot corner to initiate expose while "zoomed out" in spaces. I used to be able to click any window of any app in any space and move it to any other space. I used to be able to move an entire space to another location.

Now I've upgraded to Lion and I cannot do any of that. Serious downgrade, serious loss of efficiency. I've taken the time to learn how Lion handles all this. I've taken the time to change options to try to make MC more efficient. Simply put, it's a downgrade that breaks something great from Snow Leopard.

For example: Initiate Mission Control while on desktop 1 and I see a window on desktop 2 that I want on desktop 3. In order to move that, I have to first switch to desktop 2, initiate MC, then move the app. Not to mention, if that window were under another window, I'd not be able to see it at all!

For example: In SL, to go from space 1 to 9 on a 3x3 layout, I could use command+right, down, down, right. On Lion, I have to use comand+right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. seriously? Sure, I could use command+9 (if that's even where Lion decided it wanted to keep the app!), but I prefer the efficiency of using 1 hand to do the keyboard shortcut.

Tell Apple you want the option of having spaces in a grid again. Who knows, maybe if enough of us do, they'll bring it back: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

i think apple is orientated at the masses of costumars. i think the professionals are out of interest because there is less money making.

i think in 2-3 years everything will bie iOS and no normal operating system like we now it anymore.

most of the people just mac book pros and the tablet. mission control is orientated on that. not on professionals or multiple monitors.

for me mission control is pure horror. i switched it off and now work lite in ancient tiger times before expose or spaces. its stupid.

lion is maybe the last operating system on the mac i will use. afterwards i will go to unix / linux. its not because of mission control. its because of less freedom on an operating system. appstore and all that is crazy.the novel 1984 is nothing ios on a ipad or iphone. and that all will get much more crazier. i bet on the follower of lion it will be impossible to install applications yourself, all over the store

i hope that in the deep of lion there is enough for a app developer to create an app that bring back expose and spaces as we now it from sl.
