MacBook Air wirelessly connect to Samsung Smart TV?

I have a question that may be a bit tricky. I just bought a Samsung Smart TV that connects wirelessly to the internet. I can use my iPhone as remote control, but can I also stream content from my MacBook Air to the tv?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7)

if you have an apple tv you can hook that up to the tv and stream between the apple tv and your device through a program air video. I used air video to stream content from my computer onto my iphone onto the tv. It sounds sort of complicating but it is actually very simple and amazingly easy. It will even convert and video file on the fly. Amazing ios application.

Thanks for the reply, but buying an Apple TV more or less makes the TV's own wireless connection superfluous, right? I bought an expensive tv with wireles because I thought I could do without extra devices etc.

So the question remains: Can I hook up my MacBook Air directly to my Samsung Smart TV? Anyone?

The problem really is that the TV's own browser isn't compatible with Silverlight - which my favorite streaming service uses. That's one reason why I need to connect the computer - to stream it from there.

Should have bought Apple TV in the first place...

If all you require is a way to stream video and music to your Smart TV then Serviio as mentioned about should serve your needs.

Check out the features: http://www.serviio.org/features

However if you're looking at mirroring your MBA (or an MBP) to a Smart TV then I don't believe it is possible to do wirelessly (as yet). I've been searching for this solution also without any luck so far. It seems the only options are to buy an Apple TV and use mirroring or buy another third party device that can provide this function or use a HDMI cable which is kind of limiting.

When (and that a big WHEN or should that be an IF) Apple launch their iTV then it will most likely be possible to mirror directly to TV without the need for a HDMI cable.

So unless Samsumg come up with an AirPlay or Mirroring function update that will allow any wireless computer or laptop to connect to it then you're stuck with a HDMI cable as your only connectivity solution.

I have an Apple TV and it is very poor at streaming content from a website to a smart tv. The content stops & starts, skips and eventually freezes completely, yet the video is still playing on my macbook air. It's truly worthless in all ways and when I called customer support, 2 weeks after purchasing the Apple TV, I was basically told, 'Too bad! Your problem because it's probably getting interference from other wireless devices, like a neighbour 4 doors down who just brought home a new baby monitor, or some other similar issue.'

So why bother buying it? Unless someone can help me fix this and get the Apple TV working as it should, it remains in the junk tech crate in my basement!
