Safari Crashes on Opening after Lion upgrade!

I just upgraded to Lion, and I try to open Safari, but it crashes before it loads my homepage!

I had recently set my default browser to Chrome in Snow Leopard the other day pre-upgrade, could that have something to do with it?

Post a crash report so we can try and help you.

If Safari has just crashed, press the Report buton on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.

Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

Default browser settings won't cause Safari to crash.

I've actually just found a solution.

As it turns out, LastPass was causing my crashes, too.
I had to find my SIMBL folder (~Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/LastPass.bundle) and remove the LastPass plugin.
After that, all was well. Not sure if I need to reinstall LastPass now or just pay for (what I've heard is the far superior) 1Password.

I'm using SL and found the perfect solution. 1) Follow oh_okay 's instructions, 2) download and reinstall Lastpass, 3) Restart Safari 5.1 and all should work fine. With this lastest update to Safari Lastpass functions a bit differently, having it's own tool bar with the option to hide. You have to click on the grey star, which stays grey, when logged in. There may be a tweek for that, which I haven't gotten to yet.

It could possibly be another SIMBL plugin. I only have one other plugin in that chain, and it was not a problem. I'm not the expert, however, in the past issues typically have led to add-on to Safari. Most techs have suggested removing add-ons one-by-one to isolate the culprit. My suggestion would be to follow standard tech advice. Of course, an extreme yet quick method would be to remove all add-ons and start fresh. If the problem still remains, I'd contact Apple support.

Hope this helps to resolve your problem with Safari 5.1.

What I've discovered in SL with this Safari upgrade is that when I reinstalled Lastpass it was installed as an extension, rather than a plugin, as it was before. So, I looked in the SIMBL plugin folder and only found one plugin. I did find a collection of extensions in the User Library/Safari/Extensions folder. My not being the technician, I can only presume that Apple has changed how it installs Safari 3rd-party plugins, instaling as extensions now, rather than plugins. Who knows, possibly that helps to make the 3rd-party plugin/extension more compatible????
