Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?
I've seen many comments about people having different problems and trouble with the new OS X Lion, does anyone recommend me to download it? My current OS is Mac OS X 10.6.7.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

One think you didn't mention Bob, with all that out
in "public" so to speak, not just government, but any hacker
with the right skills and luck can gain access to that data.
It's one problem I have syncing mail on various machines.
My ISP uses POP. Lots of people say that I shuld be using
IMAP because the data is there for ever. Yes, there forever
for any one to see, spy or just plain hack. Naysayers will say
it is ultra secure. These days there is no such thing!!
I agree with your thinking on this. The Cloud is a useful concept, certainly facilitates backup, multi-device integration, portability, multi-user strategies, etc, but the wormhole is that one is handing over of a massive portion of their personal and/or business information.
When some unscruplous person puts your personal Cloud information for sale, there will be a serious rethinking of the tradeoffs.
other then a long download, it works fine, make sure your system is up to date with apple updates first. i got a usb thumb drive on sale for 5 dollars, then made my own recovery drive on it. it seems to me that its not much of a up grade. kinda in the league of windows me.
As of last week, Lion on my 27 inch iMac stopped being able to send mail to one of my mac.com accounts while I was figuring outhow to be able to restore it to SL.
So, yesterday, back to Snow Leopard and all is well again.
D*mn, Lion is just bad.
I do not recommend 'if' you have 2010 MBP. I have been using Macs since 1986. The BSOD problem reminds me of the OS 7.6 release that diasabled the L2 Cache on many Macs. The BIG difference is that back then in 1997 when Apple was a small company, they jumped on the problem ASAP and provided a software patch. Today with the Lion BSOD problem, they have lawyered up on acknowledging he problem with Lion and 2010 MBP.
Tens of thousands of posts and we all are hoping that 10.7.2 fixes the BSOD.
In 1998 Macs were a passionate hobby with critical work on PCs. Today however, I am 100% Mac. So, this BSOD has really screwed me. -- Barry E. (Virginia Beach, VA)
it has its "monday problem" as Snow Leopard was on its first versions before the updates.
i like the "thought" that they are mergeing OSx twards iOS, but now it has its "bugs" or its "monday-problems".
to answere your question i almost recommend it, and soon after the latest updates in the near future as "10.7.2" it will be less "buggy" i hope :-)
This has nothing to do with the topic, Lion. If you wish to discus security implications of remote storage then please start a topic elsewhere. BTW: cSound1: You are dead on! One of the best methods is to clone your drive and then use the new one to update. But also, if you have a new drive like I did, you can also do a clean install and then use Migration Assistant to pull your files and apps over.

What is the "BSOD"?

Blue Screen of Death.

th BSOD is Windows-speak for the crashing of a computer. It stands for "Blue Screen of Death." Any one that has ever used Windows for any length of time has seen it. The Mac does not have a BSOD. It has a very nice dark grey screeen that politely tells you (in many languages) that OS X had problems and decided to stop working and to hold down your power button for 4 seconds so it can reboot.
Office 2008 works fine for me on my Imac with Lion running. After reading the comments above, I thought I'd mine - I've installed Lion on a MacBook Pro, and my Imac - the worst thing that has happened is ITunes can't find the library. Have a call into Apple for a help call in the morning.
If that's the worst that has happened, I'm a happy camper. Can't tell you how badly upgrades are to Windows computers and the nightmares, so this is a piece of cake.
I have full Adobe suites, Microsoft Office, and all seem to be working fine. Hope this helps.
The Mac has a GSOD. Gray Screen Of Death.

And the Spinning Beach Ball of DOOM.
I affectionately call that "the spinning technicolor pinwheel of DEATH".

That works too! Whatever you call it, it's no fun to see! 😝
