Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?

I've seen many comments about people having different problems and trouble with the new OS X Lion, does anyone recommend me to download it? My current OS is Mac OS X 10.6.7.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Sorry to hear about that. I agree that the lack of a hotkey for Versions can be disrupting (and dumb from Apple not to make a default one. I am not saying Lion is perfect). You may want to try to assign the "command-shift-S" hotkey as I described in the previous post. It works. After that to have it working as before you should do "Command-Shift-S" and then "Command-S" even if this still leaves the original document open. Ler's say that as it is now Versions isn't well implemented.

I've had Lion since it was released, and I still have to stop and think about what I'm doing when I try to edit a .pdf in Preview. I have to think about each step along the way and sometimes I sill screw it up and have to go searching in the "Pictures" folder for the file I was trying to export to the desktop, because that folder is the default and there's no way to change it...

If I understood correctly it is not Versions that is broken, but Preview. It always keeps Desktop as the default folder to save the duplicated files. TextEdit, for example, doesn't. I duplicated a document in the Documents folder and after restarting TextEdit saving another duplicated file it used Documents as the default folder. I am afraid it is a bug in Preview.

Then to be honest, Preview is not exacty a tool for editing documents. Especially the nasty PDF files. As its name says it should be used just to view the files. I even wonder why Apple added some editing functionalities to it. You may want to give it a look to Skim, as suggested by Softwater. Otherwise you may check this list of free tools for PDF files manipulation.

No, it doesn't. The default is the "Pictures" folder, but I want my files on the desktop when I'm working with them.

That could be.

Maybe I will. This Versions stuff is really driving me nuts!

Really? Mine defaults to Desktop. And sticks with that. You may want to try removing the file

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist

To access ~/Library in Finder press Command-Shift-G and then type ~/Library. Maybe it has some old settings that is sticking there from Snow Leopard. But yet again, Versions has nothing to do with it. That is a Preview bug.

Thanks, I'll try that. Edited to add: Not sure how it could be "sticking there from Snow Leopard", since I've always had Preview default to saving to the desktop. Lion changed it somehow.

Edited again to add: Trashed the file and nope, Preview still defaults to exporting to "Pictures". I have to change it each time when I want to export something to the desktop.

Guess what? I still hate Versions! Why are you trying so hard to sell me on it? Did you design it or something?? ๐Ÿ˜

Ha ha. I think it was designed by his Mom.

No offence Michelasso but you do seem sentimentally attached to it.

BTW KittenMommy when it comes to saving files as something else, somewhere else, you might like to try Default Folder. Lion has screwed it up a bit but I know they're working on a fix. DF lets you save anything you want to wherever you like.

Sorry about that. Then I don't know. It might be fixed in the next release if it used to default to Desktop. Defaulting to Pictures is not correct.

It must be a compusive disorder. I feel the urge to correct people when they say something I am sure it isn't correct. We could talk about the lasagna recipe and I would do the same. Because I know you guys don't do it right!! ๐Ÿ˜€

So... I don't really dislike Versions, I just think I do? Seriously?? ๐Ÿ˜•

Well, I'm glad we have you around to "correct" these things! ๐Ÿ˜

****... logic isn't in the house, today. I was saying that it isn't Versions to be bugged, but Preview. Without Versions Preview would probably have had the same exact bug. What would you have blamed then?

If you don't like Versions it's ok with me. That's subjectve, your loss (I hate vegetables but I don't claim that they are not goof for the health). But that it isn't Versions messing up your workflow because Preview is defaulting to Pictures folder is objective. Thus blame Preview and use a better tool. Many also come Versions free so all of your problems in this subject would be solved.

See? I am trying to help, not to convince you that Versions is good. With the time you spent b*tching about Versions you could have already tested 5 different tools! ๐Ÿ˜€

That bug is separate from the issues I have with Versions. And thanks for implying that I'm illogical!

I also hate how Versions messes up my workflow in TextEdit, which is why I've stopped using it entirely. MS Word has lots of problems, but Versions isn't one of them (well, not yet anyway).

Yes, I do nothing all day long but complain about Versions. We need an eyerolling icon.
