OS 10.7 Lion, I can no more connecting to my Lacie 2big Network

After installing OS 10.7 Lion, I can no more connecting to my Lacie 2big Network 2 (automatic DHCP). On an anther Macmachine (Snow Leopard), there is no problem!

A message appears (in Apple File sharing): There was a problem connecting to the server. The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.

Does that mean, that the Lacie 2big Network is not supported with the new OS 10.7 Lion ???? (I have already downloaded the new update from Lacie, but no result.

Is that a problem with Mac or Lacie

Thanks for your help

LaCie released beta updates, that should update the firmware with a working version of AFP.

Temporary solutions are:

  1. Use SMB instead of AFP (to do this, Finder menu Go>Connect to server and then use smb:192.168.x.y
  2. Make all password-secure shares public, without password. Indeed, only my public folder was working.

I'm installing the update right now for my 2big Network 2, I'll let you know what happens.

Strange, it seems to be working for me (with a few quirks). Even Time Machine. I downloaded it before they removed the link.

First off, the firmware update got hung up on step 3, which was the "your device will reboot in a moment" phase. I let it sit there for 3 hours, and nothing. So restarted the computer and the drive. Everything seems to be fine and it shows that the system version as 2.0.4.

Also, when logging in to the drive through afp with finder (as an admin, not guest), I get a "cnid db" error. A message says it's going to use a default version. That's fine with me, I don't really know what that refers to. There doesn't seem to be any connection problems so far.

And for Time Machine, I was able to back up my full 157GB to the drive. Took all night though. The strange thing is, Finder only shows the file size as 862.2MB. It's all in there though, I checked it out with Time Machine, and the file size shows up correctly when using muCommander (SMB Connection).

Those are the only quirks I've encountered so far, other than access to the drive sometimes feels slightly sluggish. But I have RAID 1 set up so it's probably normal for a network drive.

I have the same problem to connect to my LaCie 2Big network since I uprgrade from v2.0.7 to version 2.2.8... Before this upgrade all things are OK even in Lion. But since the upgrade I can't mount the shared partition from the NAS to my desktop and that with Lion, with SL 10.6.8 and SL 10.5.8... The LaCie appears in the "shared" volume, I can see the different partitions, but when I try to connect to anyone as "guest" I receive an error message saying "impossible to do the oeration because the original element is not found", some other times the error message is saying : "the server version is not supported".

The only way to mount these partitions is to use smb instead of afp as stated before in the thread but with this method iTunes is unable to read my music library as before because it connect with afp protocol...

At the moment, it seems that no solution is found by LaCie... I try to downgrade the NAS version but I'm unable to go to 2.0.7 as before because the system is blocked to v2.2.3

Have you any new idea ?

Thanks

Fortunenatly you own a LaCie 2 Big network v2 and LaCie will continue to support it and will deliver an firmware upgrade but the LaCie 2 Bignetwork v1 is no longer supported ! So you have to deal with an unsupported solution like the one described in this thread (reactivate DHCAST128). But you don't know what will happend in the future upgrade of OS X in the future....

For those who understand french you will find the reply from LaCie to my problem :

"

Bonjour,

Cordialement,

LaCie SAV."

I was about to upgrade to Lion today but something told me to check regarding my Lacie 5big Network 2, on which I run Time Machine for both my Mac Pro and my MacBook Pro, currently using SL. I was horrified to find there were potential problems accessing TM on a Lacie NAS after upgrading to Lion and just thankful I had not done so yet.

There is a section on the Lacie site: http://www.lacie.com/us/more/?id=10121#NASOS

that summarises as:

Update August 26, 2011: The problems listed below may occur if you do not update your LaCie NAS device. From the list, click on the name of your device to download and install the update compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

Mac OS X Lion + Time Machine

Symptom: You may receive an error when you attempt to select a LaCie network volume as the target disk for Time Machineâ„¢ on Mac OS X Lion.

Cause: The LaCie NAS OS does not support Time Machine with Mac OS X Lion.

Solution: Use Mac OS X 10.6.x or earlier when using Time Machine to back up your Mac to a LaCie network hard drive.

Does anybody know if this has been fixed yet ?

Until it is I think I err on the side of safety and stick with Snow Leopard.
