Aug 31, 2011 5:28 PM in response to whetty101by iRod_Shuffle,Mid 2010 Macbook Pro, 2.66ghz Core i7, 8GB RAM, Nvidia 330M.
I upgraded to OSX Lion 2 days after realase via the App Store. Everything ran fine and good. But after about a month later my laptop became hotter and the fans started running higher.
So I made an appointment at the Apple Store nearby and the guy diagnosed it and found out that there was something wrong with it, I think it was the gpu or something, but all I know is that they had to replace the whole logic board.
I got the laptop back a day later, new logic board installed. Powered it up and everything seemed to be cool. Fans were running normal but the start up and shut down is still a lot slower than what it was when I had Snow Leopard.
Anyways, this evening I the moment I answered a Skype video call, my screen just went black...... It restarted, the moment I logged in, it happened again. And one more time....... Now it's running fine at the moment, however, now my magic mouse is playing up!

Aug 31, 2011 6:48 PM in response to iRod_Shuffleby martinfromeugene,Bluetooth death was a symptom of my Macbook Pro's BSOD problems. I had to reset the SMC controller (hold down control, option, command and power. Release.) to recover Bluetooth services.
In fact, in the Applecare notes that accompanied my logic board repair, the only thing written down and noted by Apple was the Bluetooth problem.
No problems since the repair, performed out of the one-year hardware warranty, but covered under software (Lion) Applecare. MBP mid 2010 2.66 i7.

Aug 31, 2011 11:17 PM in response to martinfromeugeneby Michael Higashi,Sorry - please clarify.
So...was the real fix the logic board replacement...OR the SMC Reset...OR both?
Thank you in advance for your help. This nagging problem needs to be solved.

Aug 31, 2011 11:44 PM in response to Michael Higashiby martinfromeugene,The logic board replacement was the solution.
Before the replacement - between crashes - I had to reset the SMC controller each time to get Bluetooth back.

Sep 1, 2011 1:33 AM in response to iRod_Shuffleby stovesy,Try running on the Intel graphics card while Skyping.
Download gfxCardStatus and use that.
I can guarantee my mid 2010 mbp crashes when using Sparrow email client on the nVidia gfx card.
Everyhing perfect when using the Intel.
-
Sep 1, 2011 1:40 AM in response to whetty101by stovesy,Might I invite anyone who sees anything live com.apple.NVDAResman in their kernel panics to solely use the internal Intel gfx card.
Switch to the integrated card using gfxCardStatus.
If you get a more stable system, the problem lies with the nVidia hardware or drivers.
Isn't it nice that we're doing all this bug hunting for Apple, and they've so far not even acknowledged and issue publically ?

Sep 1, 2011 5:05 AM in response to whetty101by iRod_Shuffle,Well I'm at the Apple Store right now here in Brighton, England. I showed the guy what's wrong with the machine, showed him this post on this forum and other sites with articles related to OSX Lion being a pain in the ***. And he told me he's unaware of the situation with our 2010 i7 MBP running Lion............... Even he told me he hasn't updated to Lion yet because it's still full of bugs.
The only solution really was to downgrade fresh back to Snow Leopard. So now I have to install all my frigging applications again!!!!!! Argggghhhhh!
-
Sep 1, 2011 5:52 AM in response to whetty101by fangfromhalifax,Same issue on my mid 2010 i7 macbook pro 15''. After I upgraded to lion, everytime I browse photos in iPhoto, my screen goes black and the system freezes, and I had to force reboot. I called Apple, and I was told they had not received any similar complaints!? Just look at this thread! So many people are having the same problem, Apple!
Anyways, after that, I had my macbook pro checked at a local mac service centre, and they told me the solution was to replace the logical board, since my apple warrentee ran out 4 months ago, it would cost me about $1000 to fix it! I could almost buy a new air with that kind of money! So I didn't replace anything, just downgrade back to snow leopard, and everything is back to normal, except, no lion!
Please, Apple, do Something about this!

(But you forgot to add the original cost for the MacBook Pro in your total)

Sep 1, 2011 11:53 AM in response to whetty101by SpikyJake,How can the world's most profitable company make more money? Release new software with bugs, blame it on hardware, and offer to fix it! Or better yet, why not just replace the whole computer that just barely went out of warranty!
-
Sep 1, 2011 2:42 PM in response to SpikyJakeby iRod_Shuffle,Yeah I kinda see where you are coming from. I find it a bit suspicous that Lion was released around the same time as when the 2010 models were about to finish their 1 year warranty. I feel sorry for the people with no Apple Care. I'm usually one of those people who doesn't buy warranty, but it was the student discount price that made me do it.
And do you remember when the iPhone iOS 4 update came out for the iphone when the iPhone 4 was released which messed up and slowed down the 3G and 3GS models big time. Hmmmmmmm........

Sep 1, 2011 3:57 PM in response to whetty101by modestmoose,Same thing is happening to me, several times a day now. MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz i5 8GB RAM 500GB HD 7200 RPM Doesn't happen with gfxCardStatus running locked on integrated graphics.
