Same Problem. Lion 10.7.1 crashes randomly. I cannot recognise a regularity. Sometimes Lion crashes when I am in Mail, another time when I use Skype.

On Snow Leopard I had no problem. And on Windows 7 (Bootcamp) there are also no problems. So I think the board or graphic card isn't corrupt.

I hope Apple fix this problem quickly!

Everyone in the states....remember lemon law. 3 repairs on the same issue and they have to replace it by law.  I told them if it came to that I was filing lemon law and its funny they replaced my computer after the first try.  Am I the only one on the forum that had their mac replaced?

Just went to the apple store again.  I demonstrated on a fresh install of Lion and on their diagnostic drive the crash/kernel panic that happens with graphics intensive apps (Photobooth, using iTunes Visualizer) and how I can't make it crash in Snow Leopard.  The Genius said it sounds as if it's a software issue with Lion and will send it up to engineering.  He advised against getting a logic board like others have done on the forum as he seriously doubts it's hardware related...

Even after downgrading back to Snow Leopard it still happens to me sometimes even if I'm using Windows 7 Bootcamp. Now I have to use gfxCardStatus to set it on integrated graphics, so now my £1,600 machine can't even run a perfectly easy graphics card capable game on medium settings................. SERIOUSLY.

I have a 2009 24" imac with Lion 10.7.1 installed. Been having the random black screen crashes as well.

Pain in the neck. All of you are not alone. Lets hope Apple will fix this serious issue.

Drew, does your iMac have an NVIDIA graphics chip?

Many 2009 iMacs had NVIDIA chips, though not the 330M. Perhaps the problem is still NVIDIA-related, but more widespread than just the 330M. Maybe several NVIDIA chips share parts of the GPU design, including a flaw?

    Just speculation.

Well, even though my idea is complete speculation, at least you haven't blown it out of the water. NVIDIA is still in the running...

Derbonsaii : is it working ? I can't believe that a 2200€ machine is worse than a 500€ crap PC...

Now I know why Lion is just 23€

I have a 2007 20 inch imac with a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB videocard. My machine has been getting random black screens and stalls since Leopard (for over a year now). The problem wasn't that big, but when I upgraded to Snow Leopard it got a bit worse, and when I upgraded to Lion I got BSOD (but more often stalls and/or the weel of death) all over the place. THis is with an ATI videocard though.

There are other threads that talk about this problem with Leopard, and how it got worse for people after they upgraded to Snow Leopard. The general consensus whas then that there was something wrong in the software because it got worse in Snow Leopard. Seems like the problem may have been existent for quite a while, but only now gets to a point where it is not manageble any more.

It seems that i am not the only one who has this crash problem.

The Problem does not likely depends on the Model of Macbooks. Is there anyone who has imac and also has this Problem?

I do not installed gfxCardStatus. The Crash comes always unexpected and "resonless" (there must be some reasons, just I can not find it out! ^^)

The Temperature of Graphiccard is very high. The fans of MBP runs very fast and laudly. It embarrasses me always as i was sitting in the library even sitting by a Asus or Acer.

day 2 on the new beta (11C48) and everything is ok (keeping fingers crossed)

Just wanted to add that after this update my 330GT Rom revision is 3560

If more people would be willing to install the new beta we could have more info...

Thank you for the update -- please keep them coming. A couple of notes regarding my experience with this issue:

    1. After deleting the windowserver files mentioned many times in this thread, I ran for more than a week without gfxCardStatus and with automatic switching enabled before I saw a BSOD. Unfortunately, that tells me that you will need to run a great deal longer to know for sure that 10.7.2 is the solution.
    2. I am running 10.7.1 and the ROM Revision is also 3560, which means that if 10.7.2 contains the fix, it isn't via a ROM update to the graphics processor.

Again, thank you for the update and please continue to let us know how the 10.7.2 update treats you.
