Sep 12, 2011 11:51 AM in response to techman28by gavingough,Sorry to hear that @techman28. Are you able to tell from the System Profile what graphics card is installed on your new logic board?
[Apple menu icon ] [About this mac] [more info] [system report] [Graphics/Displays] - look at the top of the results panel to see which cards are installed.
Do you still have an NVIDIA GT330M?
-
Sep 12, 2011 11:53 AM in response to gavingoughby techman28,Yes the graphics card is still the NVIDIA GT330M.
-
Sep 12, 2011 12:05 PM in response to techman28by gavingough,That sounds promising. And you've been able to turn off the gfxCardSatus app, if you had it, and switch Automatic Graphics Switching back on?
If so, that really is a result and one that we should ll be aiming for.

Sep 12, 2011 12:06 PM in response to techman28by klackenstam,Sorry to hear that your getting BSOD with your new logicboard techman.
I however got good news from my repair place here in Stockholm.
They managed to reproduce the issues ive had and found a "sensor" issue with my logicboard and are replacing it tomorrow.
Im going to ask what kid of sensor issue it was and post it here.
My computer is out of warranty but because Ive been ******** about a graphic issue since february this year they agreed to help me.
I really hope my new logicboard will be from a different batch.
Ill keep you posted.

Sep 12, 2011 12:12 PM in response to gavingoughby SpikyJake,Yup. I've quit gfxcardstatus and made sure my automatic graphics switching was enabled in my powersaver preferences and tried many graphics intensive things at once (that before individually would cause the computer to crash) and I've had no problems.

Sep 12, 2011 12:46 PM in response to pjfishby thomasv23,Just chiming in - I bought an iMac 27" 2011 (6 weeks ago)with SL, no problems, updated OS to Lion and experience now the same issues BSOD. Got worse every day - crashes in safe mode, crashes upon return from sleep, no kernel panic, just random and frequent BSOD. Bad news, I bought it from a local dealer - let's see how they react to replacing the board - btw, would immediately go back to SL, but I do not even GET there :-)
Great investment 1650€ going south....
Thanks to all of you for the discussion, at least I now have a clue that I do not seem to be the only one with Lion problems, hardware issues or whatever.....

Sep 12, 2011 12:52 PM in response to whetty101by RichHolland,Just adding my experience...
I have had the BSOD a bunch ... sometimes more than once a day, but not usually. It all started right after I upgraded to Lion. I can't detect a pattern for when it happens. Keyboard light stays one when the screen goes black. Only thing I can do to get the machine to respond is push the power button.
Mid 2010 MBP
15" Hi Res screen
2.53GHz Core i5
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

Sep 12, 2011 1:49 PM in response to whetty101by Greg Schueler,I just want to chime in that this exact thing is happening to me with a 2010 MB pro
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
It seems that if there is a Kernel Panic while not connected to my second monitor, the screen goes black and the system dies.
It also seems cause or be related to weird Bluetooth issues. After the crashes i would have issues with my magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard.
I reinstalled Lion and that seemed to fix the bluetooth issues, until again this weekend i got the black screen kernel panic. Now bluetooth is screwed up again. There are numerous errors printed about bluetooth in the kernel.log, and even if my mouse "connects" it doesn't work. I have to re-pair it.
I had the same problems before I reinstalled, and the kernel panics got worse, so now I'm afraid to use bluetooth at all.
If it happens while my computer is connected to my external display, I can see the normal gray/multi-language Kernel Panic information before it restarts.

Sep 12, 2011 2:05 PM in response to techman28by techman28,Well I called up AppleCare and he checked with the apple store and it turns out they didn't actually replace the logic board. Even though they said they did, apparently hey didnt. So he talked to them and made it so this time once I drop it off it will go right to being replace and they said they would "expidite" it for me because of what happened. So I just got home again after driving all the way back to the store to drop it off again. Hopefully this time once the logic board is actually replaced it will fix the issue.

Sep 12, 2011 2:16 PM in response to techman28by aexis,I brought my macbook pro 15" in last week (mid 2010 just like everyone else). The apple genius team was courteous and they said they would replace the logic board after it crashed over and over again in store. About a week later now they said the replacement logic board was faulty, so they will need to order another one.
Something is definetly wrong with the logicboards for the macbook and also it seems some of the new batches to replace them. So far the original logic board had to be discarded, the replacement one was faulty, and now a 3rd one is on it's way. Why would the original logic boards AND the brand new replacement logic boards be faulty too?
Kind of odd but I hope the third logic board will fix the issue, have been without laptop for work for over a week now.

Sep 12, 2011 2:16 PM in response to derBonsaiiby Tess888,That's just wonderful..the Betas make things worse??? Thanks for sharing this information...Right now, after 3 weeks of BSOD, crashes, and overheating, my finicky Lion MBP mid 2010, i7, has decided that it's going to work now...a little over two weeks without problems so far...I have a box that Apple sent for service by my desk, and I wave it in front of the computer every day to remind it what's going to happen to it if it goes haywire again...I've decided that I'm going to stay with OS X.7.1 so I can finally get some work done...I won't be upgrading anymore until Apple get's their act together and remembers that all of their customers are important, not just those who happen to be buying new computers. I, for one, am not going to forget this unpleasant experience.
derBonsaii wrote:
Is anyone of you from Switzerland?
the new Betas don't solve the problems, i have more problems now!
my MBP crashes also with the Intel graphic card!!
is there nothing that we can do, because i think it doesn't interess Apple a lot ...

Sep 12, 2011 2:21 PM in response to aexisby Tess888,Apple and Nvidia have severed their business relationship...AMD is now the new flavor of the month. Apple has logic boards that were probably manufactured about the same time as many of our computers...why shouldn't these boards be defective as well?

Sep 12, 2011 2:34 PM in response to aexisby Ian Kelleigh,It's stories about how people have had the mobo replaced 2-3 times before it works, that leads me to believe that it is more of a software issue than hardware.
I'll be curious if when they release new updates to Lion, if these newly replaced "working" mobos will still be working fine without lockups.

Sep 12, 2011 4:40 PM in response to Ian Kelleighby Deskatur,Last Friday i went to apple store and talk about the problem with my macbook pro Intel Core i7 / NVIDIA GT330M
graphics issue and i was surprise what the technician said to me about the replasing the logic board .
He said that "replaced parts install to systems is not new parts" .. not brand new ( repared parts )
I think thats why most of guys replaced logic board didnt fix the problem , It shoud be brand new
This is my latest BSOD error / Snow leopard 10.6.8 ( yes even in snow leopard but not that often as lion)

Sep 12, 2011 4:55 PM in response to Tess888by aexis,Yes it seems that the replacement logic boards are in the same pool / batch as the original defective logic boards from mid 2010 as the new macbook pros do not use this logic board or graphics chip at all.
So some of us have to wait and get a defective logic board replaced with another defective logic board, until we get a "good" one from the batch. Pretty frustrating!
